Rockets trade Ryan Anderson to Phoenix Suns

The ever-present possibility of Morey further tinkering aside, the more I digest this trade the more I like it.

I'm hopeful Chriss can show some semblance of the proverbial NBA 3rd year epiphany and carve out a spot in the rotation.
Considering how much Capela improved in a simple well defined role, I'd like to think there's hope for Chriss to do similarly as a backup to that role.
Or maybe that's just a product of my personal desire to see a "2 bigs" version of the Rockets defensive switching lineup.
Imagine a lineup like:

Capela,
Chriss,
Tucker,
The MVP,
CP3



Of course it'll probably never happen but that would be fun.

Also, if he's healthy, Knight could represent the best backup point guard the Rockets have had since the days when Dragic was backing up Lowry.
On a side note, it's funny to think just a couple of seasons ago Rockets fans would have been ecstatic to land Brandon Knight as their starter...and any idea of Chris Paul in a Rockets jersey was an absolute pipe dream.

This is a $$$ motivated deal, you gave up the best player in the deal, by a mile, and the best prospect

I'd suspect that Chriss doesn't get his TO picked up (might stay for cheap after this year if he doesn't get many offers and likes the situation in Houston though) and that Knight gets stretched eventually, probably next summer

Knight's deal is as bad as Ryno's with the caveat that he can't play, Anderson at least it's a really solid player for the RS and a 1st round match-up

Ariza would have been a cap buster. It’s not the AMOUNT that matters there, it’s how restrictive he makes any further moves.

If you can’t move, you’re static.
If you’re static, and you’re not a young team, you’re actually in reverse.

Ariza would have been a millstone around our necks.
Who’s ever heard of a “33 year old defensive specialist”, anyway? Sure, there've been a handful (Rodman, e.g.), but not many.

Instead, we reduced the weight of our bad contract, improving our ability to move, and get two lower-likelihood potential improvements instead of one more-likely potential improvement. Knight and Anthony are both low risk, high potential options, too - Ryno is nothing into something, and Anthony being literally 0 risk.

The only move I didn’t like from this summer was Mbah, but even that one is understandable. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right move.
