2018 Packers, NFL Predictions Thread

Make your Packer and NFL predictions here, that is if you've got the guts....lol.

Predict whatever you want and do it however you want. Here's how I see the Packers and the NFC shaping up. My NFC records are based off of each team's schedule, so for instance if I think a team is 10-6 on paper, I might pick them 7-9 based on their schedule.

I struggled with it, but I have the Packers just missing the playoffs with Aaron Rodgers in the prime of career and assuming he plays all 16 games. Never underestimate the power of NFL coaching titan Mike McCarthy.

That's one of the reasons I see the Packers just missing out. Lack of offensive line depth and the fact that we only have 1 top quality WR who is probably one hard hit away from retirement are a couple other reasons. I love the Graham signing and I think him and Rodgers are going to be fun to watch, that is until the league realizes we have only 1 WR and that Mike McCarthy still hasn't figured out how to properly utilize a running game. Mercedes Lewis could be an X-factor, he gives us solid depth at TE. Between Lewis and Graham our TE situation is the best it has been since Chumura/Jackson.

But be prepared to be frustrated with lots of 3 & 2 bombs to guys like Geronimo Allison because Adams and our tight ends are covered and Fat Mac gonna Fat Mac and forget that Aaron Jones is on our roster. I've already stocked up on enough pepto to get me through the season.

Another big reason I see the Packers missing out is that the NFC is stacked. The Rams, Vikings, Saints, Falcons, Eagles are all teams I wouldn't bet on the Packers to beat in a big game, at least not right now. This current Packers team makes the playoffs easily if it's 2010-2016.

Defensively, I am optimistic about Pettine, I think he's an upgrade and much needed change from Dom Capers. That said, to be a really good defensive team you still need quality players and play makers and the Packers are still lacking in those areas. Give Gute one or two more seasons and he will get this defense where it needs to be talent wise to be a really good NFL defense, it's not quite there yet, but things are finally moving in the right direction. I do think the defense will be better this season, I just don't think replacing Capers is going to be a quick fix.

I have the Packers at 9-7 just missing out, but I also have the 11-5 Eagles with the #2 seed. The Packers aren't far off. If some of our young WRs end up being solid and Mike Pettine is a great coordinator and we get some lucky as far as guys staying healthy, we could def make the playoffs.If the Packers went 12-4 and got the #1 seed, I wouldn't be shocked. I don't think that's going to happen, but it could and it wouldn't surprise me. The NFL is unpredictable like that.

If injuries didn’t exist, I would be right on the fence between 10-6 and 11-5.

But injuries have become such a huge part of the game that I don’t bother trying to think that far ahead. The league is about 3 things these days:

1) WIn games
2) Stay healthy
3) Get hot at the end of the year

Teams can mitigate #2 by having great depth, which is really hard to do when you are paying a one or two players a huge chunk of their cap.

Forced to make a pick, I say we are looking at an All-LA Super Bowl.

I'm not going to get crazy detailed here and just stick to the Packers. I think the Packers are going to go 11-5 with a top 15 defense. Rodgers is going to win MVP and we are going to make the NFC Championship. Whether or not we win that game is going to depend whether 11-5 is good enough for home field advantage. I think Pettine makes a huge difference for this team and he wasn't showing any of his cards in the preseason. Rodgers is going to light the NFL on fire after having to sit out most of last season. Say 4,300 yards passing with 40 TDs and 14 INTs. I think the INTs may be a bit higher than some of his other elite years due to the rookie receivers making a few mistakes.

I think you are forgetting about Joe Philbin's impact and how he changes the offense.

I think the Packers will squeak into the playoffs. Schedule is to tough to win the division. 10-6 or 11-5. Not much of a prediction. Keeping it simple.

You may hate me for this. You are forgetting about 1 Key Factor. I agree with you about MM. Predictable and at the end of games he takes his foot off the pedal.

I think you are forgetting about Joe Philbin's impact and how he changes the offense.

That's a valid point and I took that into consideration, I think Philbin being back is a positive.

I just think that on game days, most of the play calls and the final say on a lot of calls still comes down to what McCarthy wants to call. I am not inside the meetings and every day happening with the Packers obviously, but Philbin's role is probably more about designing plays and with MM putting together an offense game plan each week. Philbin will come up with some good stuff, but McCarthy I am sure has final say on what is called, so we'll still see the arrogant and stubborn McCarthy trying to get cute when he shouldn't and not sticking with what is working and taking his foot off the pedal in critical situations.

Philbin's job basically is to make McCarthy look smart. Philbin will help, but that's going to be a hell of a challenge....lol.

I think MM is on a slightly tighter lease. Things are not just going to go his way. TT gave MM wide reign, even taking over some duties to talk on behalf of the franchise, so TT could hide in the basement, look at film and pick bad defensive players.

Whether 11-5 would be enough to finish ahead of the Vikings, not sure. Injuries or lack of them have such an impact on the performance of every team.

With the Packers, i worry most about the paper thin depth at OL and OLB. Besides Rodgers, Bakhtiari is the next most important player on the roster. He has to avoid serious injury.
