Whatever the Cubs doctors say, you need to add another 2-4 weeks.
The Cubs have always had an extremely important asset when "spinning" their injuries. They've mastered timing, as far as announcing the length of their injuries.
With all their scheming, why can't they predict the right number of days someone will be out. Geez, at least come close.
In 04 Prior was injured in spring training and they(tribune) said he would be back after a few weeks, or so, into the season. Well after the season started then he got delayed, then delayed, then delayed. Next thing y aknow his first pitch was the middle of the season. Maybe it wasn't exactly like that but pretty close. and no I didn't look it up so don't correct me.
What a way to sell tickets.

I really think this injury is a blow to our ego more than anything else. I think we can win games just fine without Soriano in the lineup. Our team ERA is top notch, and we obviously haven't been winning the bulk of our games thanks to the long ball. We still have guys who can make things happen, particularly so if they're utilized properly...something that might re-surface itself now that Soriano is forcibly removed from the leadoff spot.
I think this is good because it'll give Soriano some time to rest, while establishing what our lineup/roster is going to be for the stretch run. Now more than ever Jones will either have to step up or sit the f#$k down.
Soriano will be back come September, and the production (or lack thereof) from his "fill-ins" will likely determine the roster/lineup for September and on.
I'm excited to see Patterson play, almost has made me forget about Soriano's injury. Pie will no doubt be a September call-up, if not sooner.
Humor aside, this is JJ's time to shine. Whether or not he will remains to be seen.
Unrealistic expectations for JJ's next 20-30 games.
.350+ BA, 3 HRs, 14 RBI

Time for people to step up.
Where on earth has Floyd's power gone? Two years ago he had 34, now we get 4!?!? JJ is almost a lost cause, but even the biggest detractors had to expect more than 2 freakin longballs.
Our pitching has been carrying this mediocre offense for too long. It's not a matter of getting different players (except Pie), we just need our guys to wake up.

ChicagoSports.com wrote:Felix Pie reported to the Cubs on Wednesday with encouraging news about Alfonso Soriano.
"I talked to him at the airport when he was going to Denver," Pie said. "He told me he was recovering very quickly and can walk normally now. The [torn right quad] is not too painful, and he said he can come back soon."
Pie said Soriano told him he believes he can return before the Labor Day target manager Lou Piniella gave Monday.
The two roommates had stayed in constant contact since Pie's demotion to Triple-A Iowa.
"I talk to him every day," Pie said. "It's like daddy and son, or like a brother."
Pie said he worked on his batting stance at Iowa, where he was hitting .360 with nine homers and 42 RBIs, and hopes he can translate that success to the major leagues after hitting .216 in his previous two stints.
He may get some playing time this weekend at Coors Field, with its expansive outfield. If he doesn't start, Pie is a solid defensive replacement for the late innings.
"Obviously, he can really help out that way, and we'll get him some playing time too," Piniella said.
Pie's call-up was necessary after Angel Pagan was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a bleeding ulcer.
"He has lost some weight and really has very little energy," Piniella said. "He has had this for a while, and it has been treated with medication. The prescription for this is bed rest for about a week."

ChicagoSports.com wrote:Alfonso Soriano thought his season was over when he tore a quad muscle in his right leg Sunday night while running the bases against the New York Mets.
"I felt a pop, and that was the first time I felt that in my leg," Soriano said Thursday. "When that happened, I thought maybe that's it for the season because I felt so much pain. But after they took the MRI, they said it wasn't that bad. That made me more relaxed."
Soriano rejoined the team in Denver and said he felt like he would be ready to return in two weeks, which would be one week ahead of schedule.
"I said to myself, maybe two weeks," Soriano. "I feel OK walking, but I haven't put any [weight] on my leg because I don't want to feel the pain. I'll just get some good treatment, work hard and come back soon."
But manager Lou Piniella said Soriano was being overly optimistic.
"He's an optimistic guy," Piniella said with a laugh. "If you talk to him tomorrow, he'll probably be 10 days away. By the end of this weekend, he'll be ready to play [Tuesday] against Cincinnati."
In truth, the Cubs aren't going to rush Soriano back in two weeks.
"We're looking at that Sept. 1 time frame," Piniella said.
Soriano is icing the quad and said he hopes to begin running again next week.
He looked bored watching batting practice Thursday and is having a hard time dealing with his first stint on the disabled list.
"It's hard for me to see the team play [on TV] or to watch it here, but there's nothing I can do," he said. "I'll see what I can do from the bench to help the team. A lot of people here are down, and I can motivate the team to win."

Even those unrealistic expectations were too low!
