If we are not going into full tank mode, then we have to be patient.

A few rules we should have:
- don't trade any first rounders ever
- don't make any big free agent signings and just try value signings (GRIII is a good example, low risk, low cost high upside)

If we can do that for a couple of years, we get young players and our cap situation cleans itself up. It took us a few years to get into this mess, and it will take a few more to get out of it.

Exactly. There's no quick fix to this one in either direction. Nothing will make us contenders short of a miracle and gores doesn't want to tank. We need to slowly build a team that can maybe make it through a few rounds in the playoffs to appease gores and hopefully we rebuild once the books are clear.

So since this is the only thread semi active what's the deal? Is there any chance historically we can make a trade or is this it?
Side note I feel like Galloway will get consistent minutes this year at SG

Historically there's every chance that we can manage to fritter away our picks -- because that's what we've done up to this point.

I know that isn't the answer you wanted though. It's boring when nothing happens; especially in the offseason.

But no reasonable return of Charlotte players is worth the long term sacrifices you would need to give in the process.

What's the point of mortgaging the future of the team for the next 5-7 years just to lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs on the upper end (ECF if we were very very lucky)?

I think Michael Jordan is past his prime, but if y'all think we to trade for him... whatever. I'm sure he'd fill seats at LCA.

Does anyone think Reggie jackson can play 70+ games a season at a high level?
If not, we need to find someone who can, while he's worth "something".
Why not make some play for Kemba?

I don't have great hopes of Blake playing 70+ games, for that matter.
But, he's less contractually movable and more likely to put butts in seats.
So, we'll have to rely on the magic of Arnie Kander.

There's no way charlotte trades kemba. They seem to be happy letting him waste his prime and staying mediocre. He'd Ben great in Detroit though.

As far as getting anything for reggie, I don't see it. His value is at an all time low with his health issues and I'm fairly certain teams would still be cautious of his "character issues" from okc. I think we're stuck with him whether he's healthy or not.

I came to this thread prepared to crap all over it but it honestly has more merit than I'd like to admit. The "correct" move was to not trade our 2018 1st round pick and handcuff ourselves salary-wise for years to come. But here we are. The current team we have probably misses the playoffs, maybe we claw our way into another 1st round sweep. That's our ceiling. But, if the franchise isn't going to change direction from win-now to tank, this is the type of trade that atleast does something. We would have Kemba's bird rights if there's anything there and, if not, management would finally have to sell pieces and embrace the tank.

All of the negative feedback is saying to stand pat and let our contracts run out and that's literally the worst plan. At least with this trade, we're giving up first rounders that would theoretically be in the 20s instead of swinging and missing on late lottery picks. Pretend Kemba and Batum are 1st round picks that actually panned out for us cuz I'm sure we wouldn't draft starting caliber players with those picks anyway.

It's only the worst plan if you think that constantly making moves to improve the team to win now is the right strategy. Some us don't like the treadmill.

You completely miss one of the most important aspects of using draft picks vs having Kemba in hand right now: the latter will cost us an absolute boatload of money to retain while 4-year rookie contracts are cheap.

If you think adding Kemba will somehow elevate us to a championship-caliber team that would be one thing. But we aren't even in the same galaxy as that.

Spending even more money retaining him on top of already overpaying for Blake is the worst plan. It's not close.

So then what do we do with the cap space instead? We do what good rebuilding teams do: take on extra salary in exchange for young assets and picks. In other words, we do exactly the opposite of what we've been doing for the last 10 years.

I don't know what's with some of you guys. Batum is NOT a good player. Over the course of the last two seasons, he's been a terrible shooter and a bad defender. Last season, he was in the 30th percentile in half-court offensive efficiency and the 11th percentile in half-court defensive efficiency. He's nearly 30, so he's unlikely to make a significant comeback. At $76 million over the next three seasons, he's on one of the worst contracts in the league.

Do your research.

As for Kemba, I cannot conceive of a single scenario in which the Pistons could pull that off. Unless the Pistons were willing to distribute draft picks on the scale of the 2012 Nets, the salary in/salary out simply could not work in a way that would benefit Charlotte. It's just not possible.

Again, do your research. Don't just say "WE SHOULD DO THIS."
