I'm convinced Sticks Smith is going to have a huge impact - I may be jumping the gun, but he's got an it factor with the way he carries himself. I'm guessing best MD frosh since Joe Smith. But he does need to fill out some. And Wiggins will hopefully step in and be a big scorer.

What Turgeon needs to do is run a LOT more than he has in the past. Take advantage of the fact than Bruno and Smith are an extremely fast and athletic center and PF combo. He's always had big plodding guys, and he's never had a good running team here - partly because of his coaching. He should coach this team like Gary Williams used to coach the team. Run, run and run some more. Don't make it a half-court team where we don't have a true half-court PG, and we can get out-muscled and out-skilled. Bottom line, if Turg doesn't get this team running, he's basically asking MD to fire him.

They are disgusting. Mistakes on every play. Iowa is smashing up them.

Let's update a moribund thread. Maryland Board of Regents keeps Durkin. Gets the worst publicity since Len Bias. Students about to protest. Football players leave meeting and then practice the next day. Then Loh fires Durkin and while the publicity is still bad the players are happy again.

Yeah he knows the area, but 34 games is a big enough sample size that tells me he's probably not a good coach. I recall those days well.

Len Bias had at least one class at the same time I did. We crossed paths daily. He spoke to me once. (I by then was IN AWE of him. After UM played Houston in the NCAAs, probably in 1985 when this occurred). Before Leonard Bias passed I matriculated to another campus; but, I know a lot about who made the decisions after Bias OD'd on campus. Chancellor Slaughter, who I spoke to about my academic issues circa 1985; essentially put UMCP on nearly a death penalty before the NCAA did their bidding.

I'm GLAD I didn't respond yesterday. Durkin was back. Now that the pressure forced Wallace Loh to man up I'm good.

Locksley coached at New Mexico, where nobody wins. Not saying he's going to be Urban Meyer or Nick Saban, but he can flat-out recruit with the best of them and will keep many of the D.C. and Baltimore guys since he's from the area and went to my alma mater (Towson, we were both there at the same time). He probably would turn them down though, I believe.
