Offense - How good will the Nuggets be?

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Thu Sep 6, 2018 8:55 pm

Adam Mares said he thinks the Nuggets will be a top-3 offensive team this year - scoring 110 or 120 or 130 in quite a few games.

What do you think?

Last Year - realizing some of these numbers will change
18.5 Jokic
14.6 Millsap
15.7 Barton
17.5 Harris
16.7 Murray --- Starters = 83

7.1 Plumlee
9.9 Lyles
15.2 Thomas --- 3 Key Bench = 32.2

Total - 115.2

Notice that all five starters are 15-20 ppg guys - that shared scoring can be great and Thomas will be carrying the bench for sure

This kind of projections is tricky because you don't know how big will be injury issues this season. For example, last season Millsap missed 44 games which notable up Lyles PPG averages. The paradox is: fewer injuries of starters we have, average PPG players stats go down, but team's PPG stats going UP!

Here is how I see 9 man rotation averages in a competitive game this season when everyone is healthy:

20.5 Jokic
18.5 Murray
16.5 Harris
14.5 Thomas
12.5 Millsap
10.5 Barton
8.5 Lyles
6.5 Plumlee
4.5 Juancho

112.5 pts (115 at home, 110 on road), enough for TOP3

Sorry Joker, I have a hard time seeing everyone's scoring going down except for Jokic's and Murray's (and even theirs going up so minimally)

As for the proposed question, I can easily see top 5, could be top 3 but I'd be hard pressed to say given the volitile nature of the NBA

One of the highest-scoring teams in the league, easy.

The problem is the other team gets the ball, too.

Sure enough, but posting about the Nuggets defense would result in a lot of empty posts. So our goal has been and probably will continue to be to outscore the other team. Good thing we are one of the best at scoring.

One of the biggest reasons why I'm thinking we are going to have a better record this season and finish TOP6 on West after two seasons in the row we finished #9, is our defensive improvement. Our two best defensive players Millsap and Harris missed 60 games last season. To prevent silly fouls Jokic played tough defense only during 2nd halves of our games, now can play it at least since the 2nd quarter. Also, Murray has so many rooms for def improvement.

I'll keep my lack of faith in our defense not because of the individuals, but because of the system Malone uses.

Man-ning Up!!!

Looking at all the shooters on this team, it's easy to see we can average 110+ppg which is pretty impressive for any team.
