Also if ANY trade is being mentioned, our 2019 pick has to be at least lotto protected.

But what I've decided is that Doncic has a very good PR team. I think PR pushed his draft slot up as much as anything else. Guys have learned the value of marketing. If you have a noticible hairdo or a realty TV show, people know your name, and it gives you value to a club. Also during the draft, it is like a political campaign. I think a good European player strategy would be to hire a firm to hit American social media with things like "greatest player ever from Europe" etc.
There are draft picks all over the world and only so many scouts going to actual games.
I don't know how good Doncic really is at basketball (maybe he is amazing). But I think he has Lebron-level PR game.

Edit: I also don't think it is coincidence that this pose highlights all of his Nike gear. This is a three-birds-with-one-stone PR promotion and photoshoot all in one, all while building a bit of muscle.

I've watched a ton, read a ton and listened to a ton about Doncic and I truly believe he has potential to be the 2nd most impactful player in this draft (behind JJJr and ahead of Ayton).

I don't think people are expecting a legendary future and anyone who makes this comment is either a troll being sarcastic or a Luka super fan. He probably does have good PR but you kinda need to when you play overseas because unlike the NCAA which is broadcast in the US, Euroleague and the ACB is a little more difficult to access. Perhaps his PR is Lebron level and that's helped his hype but I think if you've watched him play and have read/listened to what scouts have said about him, you know there's substance behind it. How you or I view his hype and actual talent is obviously completely subjective but phrases like 'the most accomplished European player to enter the draft" isn't said with no evidence. It doesn't mean he'll BE the greatest European player of all time but saying he's the most accomplished is certainly not without merit. And to be fair, every prospect has a PR company behind them so I think it would disingenuous to focus so much on the PR behind him and dismiss him his actual talent as just hype. If you ignore all the hyperbole from the supporters and the detractors and focus on actual achievement, skill set, production, level of competition, potential and the direction the league is going, it's not hard to see why a lot of people are high on the kid.

I certainly am in no position to disagree. He might be really good. But so far, from what I've seen, his PR is better than his game.
I was replying to that specific photo and the comment that we should be disappointed our new guys didn't have similar photos. I guess what I was saying is that the reason he has photos like this and our new guys don't is because he has a better PR team.
But again I will stress that I have seen him play a total of 10 or 20 minutes, so I am not in great position to judge his game. However, I will judge his PR efforts, and say they're top-notch.

Edit: Your tone sort of seems like you think I am saying having PR is a bad thing. I wasn't making a judgment. Just saying the kid has great PR. Nothing wrong with him doing that.

Its pretty obvious that Booker and his reps are lying. I believe you had the hand injury during the season yes but why wait until training camp to get the surgery? Its clear as day he re-injured the hand doing something and now it requires surgery.

Training camp starts Sep 25th ... about two weeks after scheduled surgery.

Preseason opener against Kings Oct 1st ... about three weeks after scheduled surgery.

Season opener against Mavs Oct 17th ... about five weeks after scheduled surgery.

Hopefully its a minor procedure.

He will probably be back for season. Hopefully nothing lingers.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that you think that having great PR is a bad thing. It's clearly excellent and I think *all* athletes should be doing what they can to push their brand. I was just saying that behind the top-notch PR, there is substance to his talent and accomplishments and not *just* PR

Probably but what has Booker and his reps lied about? Maybe that hand didn't require surgery prior to be re-injured recently. Not sure what there is to lie about

Sure he might have great PR, but he is the youngest euro MVP ever, and also won a eurocup against enormous odds, as like a 17 year old with Dragic. The guy demands attentions. He gets to the line a ton and knocks them down. He shoots well, though his long range shooting suffered a bit more recently due to being the focal point of the defense. But the main thing is that he is a playmaking wing who can shoot. There are not many of those. He will probably even eventually shoot better from distance with the better spacing and less defensive attention in the NBA.

He has qualities similar to many players....and some good ones...Harden, Bird, Nash, LeBron, Ginobili...his best trait is that he plays best in big games and big moments. Often times maybe not the first games of the series, but if his back is against the wall, he leads his team to win...and often not by doing everything himself but by getting others involved.

He will probably not put up as great of numbers as Ayton, for example, but will likely really make an impact on his team winning.

He's probably the most ready rookie, due to how much more experience he has, though the adjustments to the NBA and new country may take him a little while to get going.

Maybe he had it earlier in the off-season, but they hid it up because they didn't want it to affect contract negotiations? Who knows.

Highly doubt he had something as serious as surgery on the shooting hand without letting Suns front office know. We'll need to wait for the full story to come out but I'm expecting he reinjured his hand and now needs surgery.

hopefully its with the hand not the wrist. An serious injury to the shooting wrist could seriously ruin a player's shooting ability, as we have witnessed with Zarko.
