I couldn't care less if they close the curtains for concerts. If you want to see the band then see the band and get out of the concourse. Get liquored up before and if you can't hold your pee for 90 minutes buy some Depends.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I thought that the curtains were a nice touch. I actually caught a "theatre" vibe from the bowl area. I don't think I'd want it dark for a game, though.
I was in one of the upper corners last night, third row, and I actually thought the seats seemed more cramped than at the BC. The cup holder was nice to have.

I really wish they'd do MSG lighting for games. I know I've heard that they can't do it that way, that it doesn't fit NBA "standards" although MSG is allowed to do it. The players like it. I think it looks cool.

Nothing in the above article about selling anything. As we already know the memorabilia was auctioned off awhile ago. Some of the electronic stuff is being given away.

It's all subjective of course, she didn't like the design from the moment it was announced. Personally I think it looks a lot better on the outside than I thought it would when I saw the first renderings. I would have gone a different route but it's fine. The inside is really nice, as the article states.

The exterior sucks IMO, but it would look a lot better if they just figured out a way to either finish the roof with more zinc (which I assume wont happen) or paint it something other than white. Sticks out horribly.
I will give credit to that dude that said they got it 97% right- at least they're somewhat owning up to botching the roof/curve

Personally I don't give two craps on how it looks on the outside. I just want a good in game experience and that's what we're getting.

I'm kind of amused at the job 'architecture critic' knowing nothing about it, just imagining somebody whose job is to write a review once a decade when a significant structure goes up and then scraping by blogging about like sheds and subdivisions in the meantime.

They review all kinds of things from big buildings to renovations to small developments to public spaces.
As for the outside, I agree with her. Vast majority of people in the city (and frankly the world) will never see the inside of the arena. They will, however, see the outside. The copper should have gone much higher up. maybe they can still do that but I doubt it.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Great so it's exactly as I imagined.

Apparently Fiserv Forum/Milwaukee is one of two finalists for the DNC. Houston being the other. Alex Lasry quoted here:

Those things happen much more frequently than you think.

Re: FISERV FORUM THREAD - Open House/Block Party 8/26
It's like being a music critic or a movie critic or a dining critic. One person's opinion. Cool job but not much relevance. And I'd give more credence to a dining or movie critic because they've eaten in more restaurants or seen more movies than most. A Milwaukee architectural critic sees the same buildings everyone else sees and gives an opinion.

We should call them building reviewers and every week they should roast a stranger's home in the Life section.

Re: FISERV FORUM THREAD - Open House/Block Party 8/26
At the end of the day it is subjective but at least in terms of art, architecture, film, music, etc. there's history, structure, aesthetic, form, function etc. etc. etc. that can be broken down and analyzed. Critics provide the "why" something works or does not work. Studying film structure and screenwriting literally changed the way I watch and appreciate movies. Listening to the critics on Sound Opinions podcast has opened my eyes to all kinds of new ways to appreciate different kinds of music.

Re: FISERV FORUM THREAD - Open House/Block Party 8/26
Despite the futility of the past I still wish they would have put in a Bucks Hall of Fame or something to honor past players. We've had some good ones. But this is a franchise that had not one player come back for the Mecca game last year.

Yeah, that was pretty disappointing. They were so close to getting that night right. But, they didn't.
No former players for Mecca night and no former players (EXCEPT OJ MAYO) for the last night of the Bradley Center.
Not expecting anything special, in that regard, for opening night of the new arena.

I think you're confusing my amusement as a sign that I don't believe in either the value of criticism in general, the value of architectural criticism specifically, or the value of architecture as artistic expression. What is funny to me is thinking of somebody filling their time between major new buildings reviewing some pre-fab piece of **** with the same discerning scrutiny they'd turn toward the hand of an artist at work. It's funny to me to think of somebody with this sophisticated background getting up in the morning and putting down 1,000 words on, you know, the two story house for cats somebody threw up in their backyard. But I guess that's not so different from what well-trained movie and music reviewers do. Most stuff is bad!
