RealGM Top 25 Player Poll-#24 2018-19

Post#1 » by Filthadelphia » Wed Sep 12, 2018 7:09 am

We have debates all the time in various threads over who is better so I thought what better time than summer to see where the General Board lies in its view of the top 25 best players.

I'll update each new poll with the rankings of the last and the percentages of who won.
There's only 10 options per poll so new options will be added as we get lower and lower.

Lets come to a consensus. Feel free to comment who you voted for and why.

If you think someone else should be in the poll who is not there please comment and i'll adjust accordingly.

I would appreciate it if you can state clearly the procedure.

We vote daily(?) the best player among those who are remaining (and in the poll)?
And after each day, you remove said best voted player, list him as the next best player on our bestlist and start a new poll with the remaining players?

From your players I would replace Irving with Embiid

These are the procedures, yes. Every winner will be removed and then a new entrant will be included on the next poll.

Winner of Poll #23: John Wall (WAS)-27%

Few takes.
Paul George is essentially the same player as Gordon Hayward, yet PG went at No. 18.
Otto Porter is the best WAS player, yet John Wall is already voted in and Porter isn't even in the options pool.
Love, Derozan, Griffin over Tatum, Capela, Porzingod? Why?

Voted Blake Griffin, pretty much for the same reason I voted for John Wall in the previous round.

He had a bad year but I doubt he fell off THIS badly. I'd still rank him higher than Klay and Simmons.

Voted Horford.

Nominate Drummond.

Mitchell was probably one of the 20 best players in the league last year from March on, and he’s learning and getting better faster than maybe anyone in the league. Also he’s shown the ability to score the ball enough early that his ceiling’s super high. He should have gone ahead of Wall and Kyrie for sure.

Nominate Porter.

He’s averaged 55 games a season for the last 4 seasons. Guys who rely heavily on their athleticism and have a bunch of injury problems don’t just “bounce back” and start doing better when they start declining. The best possible case for Blake is that he maintains his current level. Worst case, he becomes Dwight Howard but from a much lower starting talent level. I certainly wouldn’t consider him while you have superstars in their prime still available.

Horford over some of those guys is pretty far out.

I understand the advanced metrics argument and all and he is a damned good player but there are better players on the list.

Horford time! Every time I watch him play he simply makes his team better.

Horford should actually be higher. You must not watch enough Horford.

To me the most fun thing about this poll will be to see how this changes after this year or even few months into the season. Would be fun if OP runs similar poll on next spring. Injured guys like DMC, Thomas, and new guys have a lot to prove.

Ah the "you must not watch because your opinion is different than mine" argument.

Lovely.

If we were going on last season, I would probably go with Horford and Aldridge over Mitchell. Horford stepped up in the playoffs and led the young Celtics to within one game of going to the finals while playing extremely well on both ends of the floor. Aldridge stepped up without Kawhi and had a career season in leading the Spurs to 47 regular season wins. But Horford will be sharing the veteran leadership with Hayward and Irving this season and the talented Tatum and Brown will be heading in to second and third seasons. The Celtics won't be as reliant on Horford as they were last season. Same with Aldridge, who will be sharing the ball with DeRozan in San Antonio.

I voted for Mitchell, the one guy on the Jazz all the other teams will be focusing on and futilely game planning to stop. Imo, he will continue to be a great second half of the game and fourth quarter performer like he was the second half of last season and during the playoffs!

How are people going Mitchell over LMA?

I really do not understand that.

Add Tatum to the poll

OP should at least go to 50 imo. Has made the GB a lot better this offseason, so kudos to him for keeping it up!
