RealGM Top 25 Player Poll-#25 2018-19

Post#1 » by Filthadelphia » Thu Sep 13, 2018 5:36 am

We have debates all the time in various threads over who is better so I thought what better time than summer to see where the General Board lies in its view of the top 25 best players.

I'll update each new poll with the rankings of the last and the percentages of who won.
There's only 10 options per poll so new options will be added as we get lower and lower.

Lets come to a consensus. Feel free to comment who you voted for and why.

If you think someone else should be in the poll who is not there please comment and i'll adjust accordingly.

I would appreciate it if you can state clearly the procedure.

We vote daily(?) the best player among those who are remaining (and in the poll)?
And after each day, you remove said best voted player, list him as the next best player on our bestlist and start a new poll with the remaining players?

From your players I would replace Irving with Embiid

These are the procedures, yes. Every winner will be removed and then a new entrant will be included on the next poll.

Dwayne "smells like" Bacon, A.K.A. The Policeman.

Dude needs to wear #50, that way when he's on the fast break, everybody can yell "Here comes five-oh!"

I voted for Kevin Love, given that this is a projection of next season.

The hype around Mitchell is warranted, but for next year only? Gimme Aldridge.

I nominate Drummond.

wowow, nominate Tatum ASAP, its a shame that Simmons is #22, when Tatum is much better player, and better prospect.

Voted Hayward. I think he will be at his previous level this year which IMO makes him the best player up there.

Mitchell is unproven in comparison, having only played one year. If he improves he will be the best choice.

DeRozan and Aldridge close behind.

I hope the poll continues to top 50. I'm curious to see just how low he can drop.

I'm going with Mitchell, I think he was close enough to this level later in the season and I also think he takes a significant leap forward. I really wouldn't be surprised if by playoff time he's knocking on the door of the top 10-15.

Donovan Mitchell. Will be an MVP level player within a couple of seasons, IMO.

I'm wrestling with:

Conley
Aldridge
Mitchell
Holiday

I was almost finished with a detailed writeup explaining my thought process, but my page has refreshed on me twice eliminating all of it both times and I don't feel like trying to re-write it a third time. Essentially the hardest part for me was projecting whether each player would stay at the same level, trend up, or trend down, since 2 of them are over 30, one of whom is coming off a season-ending surgery, one guy just had a career year, and the other is 22 and development of young players can be unpredictable. If Conley returns to 2017 level, I think it'll be him unless Mitchell takes the next step this year. But he was worse in the 12 games he did play last year and he's 31 and just missed 85% of the season. Could be simply a rough start in a limited sample, or it could be the start of a decline. Aldridge was the best player last year in my opinion but he's 33 and the Spurs just lost as lot of talent and vet leadership. Yeah, I know, Pop...but will he still be motivated if the Spurs aren't as competitive? The playoff race should be really tough and I don't like the Murray-DeRozan-Aldridge fit. I like Holiday a lot and he was really overlooked until he shut down Lillard in the playoffs, even though he was having a career year all season. He's 28 and I doubt he'll get any better so it's more about whether he can keep up last season's play or if he'll regress to what we saw in prior years. His defense and finishing at the basket were a clear step above what we've seen from him in recent years.

I voted for Aldridge originally, but the more I think about it, I might have to go Mitchell. They're all super close for me.

Lol. Go ahead and compare Mitchell's rookie season to any season Haywood has played. Better pick one of his last 2 seasons though, as Mitchell blows all of his other seasons out of the water. Mitchell's rookie year was comparable to Haywood's best season out of 6. Haywood will also be coming back from a serious injury, so it's anybody's guess whether or not he'll ever be as good as his last season.

Haywood probably won't even be the next celtic picked here. That will be Horford.
