Pirates at Crew Series

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Thu Sep 13, 2018 1:56 pm

Can't let up on the gas.

Friday - 7:10 - Archer vs. Gonzalez

Saturday - 6:10 - Nova vs. Davies

Sunday - 7:10 - Williams vs. Chacin
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Cubs have the Reds, Card have a 4 gamer vs. Dodgers.

And obviously the Cubs have a game vs. the Nats today.

Ross making his season debut, sort of. He held the Cubs scoreless for 1.2 innings last Friday before the game was called.

In 3 innings pitched vs the Cubs, Hader faced 10 batters and struck out 9 of them. What a difference it is to have him in the bullpen.

Reducing the roster for the playoffs will present some interesting choices.

OF - Braun, Yelich, Cain, Granderson
IF/OF - Perez, Thames
IF - Shaw, Moustakas, Arcia, Aguilar, Schoop
C - Kratz, Pina

SP - Chacin, Miley, Anderson, Davies
RP - Hader, Jefress, Burnes, Knebel, Cedeno, Woodruff, Soria, Gio (could be a lefty matchup guy, long relief, or start if necessary)

Freddy Peralta, Broxton, and any other matchup reliever would be your questions. A lot of people are suggesting you don't bring Thames but I probably would. That is a very lefty team suddenly, though.

This would never happen but it would be interesting to see them bring only one catcher and have Hernan as the emergency backup. With the off days might be feasible.

If it's a series against the Cubs I bring a more right-handed batting group.

For the Wild Card game you could probably just have Chacin and/or Miley and then a giant bullpen and bench. That will be basically like their current 40 man style of team.

It sure will. Hell even predicting the playoff rotation is a little tricky. Assuming they don't fall apart their last 3 starts I would think it would be Miley, Chacin, then I guess probably Anderson although if either Davies or Gio were rolling then maybe they push Anderson to the pen. Of the pen guys I would say Jeffress, Hader, Knebel, Soria, Cedeno, Burnes are locks then it's kind of a guessing game as to the others.

Seems like a great clubhouse guy but I might leave Thames. Have plenty of options at 1B and Granderson can have his pinch hit ABs

It's possible. There's an argument to be made a guy like keon offers more situational value as a runner and defender.

I don't even think that's really much of an argument. Keon's defense and speed is far more valuable in a playoff situation than anything Thames is bringing right now.

Fully agreed. Thames has been nearly enitrely ineffective at 1B and RF this entire second half not to mention a really bad regression at the plate. Plus, we can always pinch hit Pina :wizard: - there are always tricks up the Wizard of Whitefish Bay’s sleeves!

Just saw the report that Gregory Polanco wrecked his throwing shoulder and is expected to miss 7-9 months. Good news for our remaining 6 games against them this year but that's going to cost him time next year too. Happened sliding into second base, sounds incredibly similar to Jimmy Nelson's injury.

I'd have liked to see Granderson but he's 0-5 against Archer while Braun is 2-5 so I guess that's why Braun plays.

How amazing would this thing have been if the one arm was a windmill?
