Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon suffered a left ankle injury, determined to be an avulsion fracture after medical tests including an X-ray and MRI exam.

The injury, which occurred during a workout on Aug. 27, is not considered serious. Dedmon will wear a walking boot and be re-evaluated in a week, according to the team.

Atlanta would likely turn to Alex Len as its starting center if Dedmon is forced to miss any of the regular season. Len signed a two-year contract this summer after spending his first five seasons with the Phoenix Suns. The Hawks aren't competing for anything other than draft position this season, so there's not much reason for concern.

If there's any negative effect for Dedmon, it would be if Len breaks out and overtakes him as a starter.

Aug 27th? Why has it only come out now?

Len and Collins play more at the 5, not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for the honesty.

I wish we still held Edy's draft rights. As we move to a new era of dominant scoring big men, a defensive specialist off the bench like Tavares seems like a worthy investment.

Edy is more useful than Plumlee and, at the very least, is a solid 3rd string specialist.
