Last week, Andrew Marchand of the Post reported that several TV outlets were interested in hiring Richard Jefferson as a game analysts, listing YES, ESPN and the Clippers as the top three.
Now, league sources tell NetsDaily that unless RJ gets an offer to play another year, he will be joining the YES Network, doing both game analysis and studio work on broadcasts of Nets games, Jefferson will join a YES team headlined by Ian Eagle and includes Sarah Kustok, Jim Spanarkel and Michael Grady as well as studio hosts Bob Lorenz and Nancy Newman. Mike Fratello will not be returning.
Kustok, who’s become a rising star in sports announcing, will continue as lead analyst.
In talking to Marchand last week, Jefferson said “I’m a basketball player until I am not a basketball player, My goal is to play basketball this season.”
But NBA training camps open next week and it’s unlikely Jefferson will be suiting up with any team.

Richard Jefferson returns as YES studio & color analyst
We’ll find out in two weeks but damn I’m excited. I hope this can lead to Vince Carter returning one day.

Richard Jefferson rumored to join YES Network
OMFG! RICH IS JOINING EAGLE, KUSTOK, GRADY, JIM & RUCCO!!!!
This is the greatest thing ever for the franchise! I am so happy that YES and the Nets finally is a person with the cachet to ask tough questions from the players. I don’t want to hear any deron williams Mickey Mouse BS antics about our locker room or

RJ's a real wise ass so he'll definitely be entertaining to say the least.

Yeah, I'd fully support him joining the team. Always liked RJ.
Think about it. In some alternate timeline, Kidd is coaching, Carter is on the bench, and RJ is a sideline reporter all for the Nets.

RJ back in the mix is great news but the Czar is leaving so it's bittersweet. Would love to bring back VC as well once he decides to retire.

Re: Richard Jefferson rumored to join YES Network
yeah I mean he has good presence on the mic so he should be pretty good.
He's probably going to be busting Hollis-Jefferson's chops a lot since they're both Arizona alums.
It's also a plus having a pro like RJ around the team to give guys feedback in an unofficial capacity. guys like LeVert and Musa could learn a thing or two.

Re: Richard Jefferson rumored to join YES Network
Kay is not a bad announcer but I've never heard him call anything outside of baseball. Each sport you kind of really have to bring a certain nuance to it to call the game correctly. Michael Kay is perfect for baseball because of the lull and chatter that goes on in between each play and he's a hardcore fan of the sport, basketball really hasn't been his strong suit. Also, calling basketball is a bit more frenetic compared to the slower pace of baseball. I wonder if this is a test run for Kay to call games when Eagle isn't available since I believe Ryan Ruocco is going to be doing more national games (as he should, because he's a solid play by play guy)?
I know people don't like him, but Michael Kay actually has been very positive about the Nets and the direction under Sean Marks. But I would have to see how he calls a basketball game first before I'd sign up for him covering for Ian when he's doing NFL games.

Wow. I’m guessing we won’t find out until further notice. I’m saddened for him and his family.

Jefferson was born in South Central. His mother and father split when he was very young and his mom took him to Phoenix, where she raised him with her new husband.

So basically his biological father never left the hood. Wonder if he was just a random senseless victim of a stray intended for someone else, wrong place, wrong time? Or was he into some shadiness and was the target?
Edit: Just read the article, they ponder the same question. Still crazy though no matter what, you hear drive-by and one does not usually expect the victim to be 65.

I just find it hard to believe any true OGs from that hood would do that especially knowing his son is a big time star. Nowadays, these youngsters don’t have no chill so it’s quite possible he got into something with the wrong guy(s) and they didn’t give a damn.
