Wolves Aligning Focus On Trading Jimmy Butler

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Sep 23, 2018 1:50 am

The Minnesota Timberwolves are aligning their focus on trading Jimmy Butler.

Butler requested a trade this week with the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets on his list.

The Wolves signed Karl-Anthony Towns to a five-year, $190 million supermax extension on Saturday.

There have been reports that Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden had no interest in trading Butler, while Glen Taylor has been pushing for a fast resolution.

Translated: Taylor has told Layden and Thibs that Jimmy is getting dealt quickly or they can find new jobs.

Unless they can get a kings ransom they should both find new jobs anyways.

They can probably get some value from the Clippers.

Why does he want to go these historically bad teams, is it because they will cap space next summer to sign another star next to him. I don't agree that requesting a trade from the wolves is the smartest idea at all. They made their first playoff birth, you just need to encourage the younger stars to play better defense (Anthony Towns,Wiggins) and they still would have a good chance to improve from last year.

Jimmy and Parsons in Detroit
Reggie Jackson, JM Green and Stanley Johnson in Minny + Detroits 2019 second, Memphis 2019 second
Dieng, Leuer and Galloway + Detroits 2020 first in Memphis

Butler and G. Dieng to the Cavs for Thompson, Clarkson and Hood.
Minnesota gets some solid players that fit their team and keeps them in the playoff hunt. They lose the best player but he's leaving and they won't get equal value. Thompson fits better next to Towns and Clarkson/Hood provide some of the scoring lost. Minny really wouldn't want to pay Towns, Wiggins, Dieng, Teague and Butler without a title chance anyways.

Cavs get the best player in Butler but take on a big three year commitment to Dieng. Dieng is more of a center than Thompson and Butler adds a bit if everything, if possibly only for a year. Big risk..

Not sure Minny gets a better offer from any of the three teams Butler wants to go to. Trade checker scores it about even in all categories, though we all know Butler is the best player by far. Minny gets some long term upside, some salary cap relief and some right now talent and one of the best contracts in the league in Hood.
Kyrie most of the time when he shoots starts with the ball and then dribbles a while then shoots. -statistical analysis from a 'longtime' Cavs fan (June 2017)

I have a feeling Jimmy Butler does not want to live in MN. He is helping them out then letting them lose him for nothing next offseason. Now they have make the right trade. I would target Miami. If they can get Bam Adebayo & Justice Winslow somehow that would be a good get

Do you REALLY believe what you just typed? That trade and the wolves are back to winning 31 games.
