It's fine to want to 2 max free agents but we can't get them and keep Russell.

Unless they really believe Russell will turn into a star, I'd trade him for an asset to a team that still holds out hope for him instead of letting him walk for absolutely nothing.

Problem is that Marks & FO seem rather high on Russell still, and are unlikely to include him in trade conversations.
Idk...I think ND has really pushed the narrative that management is super in love with him but I'm just not buying it.

In fact, it actually reminds me of when Marks hired Kenny and at the press conference, Kenny called out Thad Young and said Thad was "his guy". Then not too long afterwards, he was traded for Levert.

IIRC, at every public gathering where Marks is asked about DLO being the face of the franchise, he always rebuffs by saying that they believe no one is the face.

I didn't think the Nets would trade Lin primarily because I thought Marks and co. really wanted to let Lin recover and re-establish himself as a Net, especially considering that he was the first notable free agent signed by the regime and was also considered the face of the Brooklyn turnaround under Marks.

With the Young and Lin trades, I now believe that Marks will always do what he feels is best for the franchise no matter how well liked a player is by the fans or even the coaching staff.

Regarding DLo himself, I really don't get the infatuation and attachment. The way he's referred to on the other site, you'd swear he is a perennial allstar who has single-handedly led us to the playoffs year after year. He's only had one (relatively inefficient) season with us.

Additionally, do we honestly believe that DLo will ever reach the same level of impact as Butler is currently at? If Butler has a good enough relationship with Kawhi and AD, I don't see how anyone could let Russell stand in the way of trying to complete such a deal.

The other site does a great job providing news on the team it ends there. No one can tell what this franchise thinks or will do because the word is anyone within the organization who talks will get their tongue cut out.

Butler's a good player if the Marksman decides to go that route that's our guy (I hope DLO gets traded for him and not LeVert)
they'd still have Dinwiddie, Napier, LeVert to run point guard...
I'm torn between going to the playoffs but not getting a lottery pick; bc with Butler they would make the post season; OR continuing the rebuild as they've been doing and see which way the ball rolls.
