If we split, the Brewers would be 91-68.

If the Brewers were swept by the Tigers there’s still a chance that the Rockies go 92-70 and the Brewers/Cards tie at 91-71 and have a play-in where the winner would advance to the WC game.

Win one of the next 2 against St. Louis and a Wild Card game would be in Milwaukee. And if it's Colorado instead of St. Louis it would also be in Milwaukee.

Oh really? I did not know that, I thought the Division  was just straight up h2h. Thats even better.

A play-in for the play-in? It's like a Russian nesting doll. But that would constitute playoffs to me if the final play-in game does.

Wasn't aware they effectively did away with tiebreakers, outside of homefield advantage.

I don’t think they’ve had h2h/standings tiebreakers for a long time. I think they’ve at least had a one-game tiebreaker game since the mid 90s, maybe earlier.

It used to be a bit more clear with only 1 Wild Card team because a lot of times teams would tie for the division but the other team was good enough for the WC slot. In that case, they’d apply the h2h tiebreaker. If it was going to decide making the playoffs or not, then they played a 1-game playoff.

I'm not coming after you (while totally coming after you) but what is the bar for when people finally just at least say, "well, maybe this is a newfangled baseball decision and I'll see what happens"? Is it 95 wins? We just crossed 90.

We've got 10 years of data to show that Mike McCarthy is a negative impact on the Packers and he's doing outdated **** daily. When he makes a decision, I'm fine trying to decide why it is stupid immediately.

I just see it as weird that a management team that is clearly exceeding expectations every year in all facets at literally every turn has people see a move and try to decide why it is terrible. Like, did people think Jennings was going to try to go 3 innings?

There have been failures like the Schoop trade just being at best lateral but remember when everyone thought it was insane that they were putting a 3rd baseman at 2nd base? It seems like it's a good idea to just sit back and at least try to assume that maybe they have some information they believe will give them an edge.

Yeah with 162 games there will always be decisions that don't work out. And we'll talk about them of course. But at least we should wait until until after the fact before blasting away. Bottom line is last nights BP game worked out as well as we could hope. One run going into the 6th inning with Hader on the mound. Anderson probably/most likely couldn't have done that.

On another note it looks like tomorrow's game is moved up an hour to 6:15 for ESPN to broadcast.

If Jeffress is out it will be interesting to see what they do if they get into a save situation tonight. Knebel and Burnes have pitched the last two days so they are probably down today. Soria is probably the option although he's been fairly busy the last 5 days. Hader is possibly an option although with his taxing inning yesterday they might prefer to keep him for tomorrow is necessary. I'd expect them to try to use Woodruff and maybe even Anderson in the middle innings today.

Best case would be to score like 8 runs early and not worry about it :)

Random observation but cedeno has been a really nice under the radar aquisition.

Yeah if Jeffress was too sore to pitch yesterday I'm guessing he's out tonight too. Probably tomorrow as well and hopefully ready for Friday.

Hopefully Gio can be ok tonight. In his 3 starts he's walked 7 but did K 18 in 16 innings. He's had 2 good starts out of 3. Molina is 8-23 against him, Wong 4-6 and Martinez 3-8. Gomber has been pretty good since being moved into the rotation. Dodgers rocked him 2 starts ago though. He's only faced 2 Brewer batters. Thames is 0-1 and Yelich got HBP.

I don't like Gio against a lineup full of righties but at this point you gotta roll with it. We'll probably see several innings from Woodruff tonight.

Yeah with how the season arc has been after big wins it feels like they get crushed tonight then play a toss up game tomorrow.

15 pages for a single Brewers game has to be close to a non playoff record. Impressive showing.

Yeah, Gio in a meaningful game isn't going to be fun. Even when he isn't giving up runs, there is usually plenty of traffic on the bases.

Sure Gio might get rocked but I'm going into the game optimistic. This has been a fun season and I'm going to appreciate these last 5 games.

That's an ugly looking late middle of the order. Perez' and Schoop's swing selection lately is horrible. They are respectively posting an OPS of .388 and .480 this month. It's practically like Perez is blind up there, and Schoop has had a slider speed bat.

I pragmatically understand the Schoop choice (although could end up regretting it) because Shaw is poor against lefties and lacks defensive range.

But Perez should not be starting over Arcia at this point in the season. In addition to the superior defense, Arcia has a .700 OPS this month. And he was in similar form last month. Punished for that bone-headed base-running and choice to bunt with a runner on 3rd? I don't think this is the time.

Irrelevant as it pertains to the decision whether it works out in the same way that it was that Hader allowed 3 runs last night.
