Butler has requested a trade (Part II)

I hope it will be the last part of saga. But Thibs management might be much more worse than expected

Sounds like Riley is trying to get Taylor more involved to lower the price Thibs is asking for.

Thibs doesn’t want to do a trade at all lol. That’s on record. I’m curious where glen lies in all of this. I’m pretty sure thibs dgaf since he’s going to get fired eventually either way.

Probably would rather just do his best to show he’s a great coach with the best roster possible, which includes JB.

Miami supposedly aggressively pursuing Butler is trying to get him for two negative contracts. Normally you have to send draft picks along with Whiteside and Waiters for a team to take them off your hands.

So far as I know we haven't had an offer that makes us better than just leaving Butler at home collecting a paycheck.

Has anyone even considered that a person who's been in the NBA for 30+ years might have an idea what type of return he can expect? Although he's not been in the FO for that long, he's been in that pipeline so he's heard a ton of offers.

Right now, with a stronger bench, more defensive players and hopefully some growth from the younger players, this team who underachieved because of injuries and lack of effort may just be on the cusp of being a top team for the next half decade with Butler on the roster. Last year's team had the ability to win in the mid 50s to mid 50s.

I wish we knew what was really going on here. The media is making it seem like Thibs is being unreasonable but if teams are not willing to give up big pieces in a deal, we should not be moving Butler. Butler is not Durant, LBJ, or Steph Curry, but he is the tier under those guys. He's a huge piece, on the same wave length as Love but even better. Wolves should be asking for a lot. Like I said before, Butler can turn your franchise around. He can take you from middling to a playoff threat. He can take a team on the edge of their goals, through their goals.

If you are a team that wants him, you have to give something up. Its worth it. The percentage that whatever young player or draft pick you have will be better than Butler over the next 3 years are extremely low. Its why I if I were the wolves last year I'd be willing to part with any player besides Towns to get him. He's that good. I would absolutely not settle and hastily do a weak deal.

That is what Thibs said. No one knows the truth. I hope that they just play good and bad cop. But overall that is one of the weidest situation with player, FO and owner.

Hopefully KAT can just suck it up and play with Butler this year. That would hopefully restore Butler's value so we get a legit offer.

The only reported offer is Whiteside and Waiters. It would certainly be better to leave Jimmy at home collecting a paycheck than to accept that.

Whether Thibodeau is willing to trade or not, the rumors we’ve heard have been terrible. Teams aren’t even offering one good piece.

If the other team isn't under the cap to renegotiate his contract it has to be assumed he's a 1 year rental. If this is the case, other teams are expecting nobody is offering anything of quality and with that, sending out questionable players they no longer want.

What's sad is that Eric Gordon may be the best player Minnesota can get for Butler.

Maybe, just maybe saying no, we're not going to trade you, fulfil your contract like Thibs said maybe the best route, you still could move him during the season to a team who is willing to give up assets to compete this season or even better yet, Minnesota has a great year and convinces Taylor and Butler that he should stay for somewhere near the max(maybe not as much money on the backend).

I hope all 29 teams drop out and we just keep him. Who the hell does Woj think he is to say the Wolves are asking for too much for a top ten player in the league?

Media is spinning it as Thibs is being unreasonable but we could just be getting terrible offers. The "Wolves have no leverage" is a crock of crap. We still hold his rights and as long as we have those we have some leverage. Not every team can sign him in free agency. Worst case scenario is we sit on his contract all season and he walks. That sucks and will be hard on the team but its better than taking a crap deal.

I touched on this a couple of days ago: Miami was talked about as a potential trade partner for Melo and now they're suddenly supposed to get a vastly better player with the same kind of pieces. Something doesn't track there.

I wouldnt accept that deal either. I think thibs should just focus on youth. Take a chance on an unproven young player with potential and they might get lucky like Indiana did with Olidipo. Players like Whiteside and Dragic are right now players, with a small window. Regardless who they get the Wolves success relies on the development of Towns and Wiggins. Gotta be careful when aquiring veterans. A lot of older vets do not have patience with Young players. Especially in todays game when the age gap is even bigger.

I think a lot of people have screwed this up. The leaks (possibly from Jimmys camp) have really made teams feel like the wolves are desperate and teams dont want to pony up. Taylor publically saying he wants a deal done fast and owners should come to him, undermines Thibs stance. I know Taylor is trying to move things along but it can hurt the negotiations. If teams see weakness they wont come with strong offers.

Players need to learn from this if it does indeed drag out. Make your trade request private, dont shoot your own prospects in the foot. OWners and front office need to be on the same page. If Glen is that worried about Thibs not doing his job then he should not have put him in that position in the first place. Everyone knows the wolves are a mess right now and they are trying to finesse Butler from us.
