The main reason Butler could get $49M more is the 5th year on the contract at over $40M. In KAT's case, if he makes an All-NBA team he is eligible for a higher salary the first year of his extension (and corresponding higher salary for each of the 5 years of the contract). The two scenarios have completely different mechanisms that trigger the jumps in overall contract value.

I never understood why people say he gets ... blank... amount of money more, thats simply not true. I mean sure he'll get more money(I think) but people need to understand that the difference isn't the entirety of that 5th year because the difference would be what he's getting in that 5th year compared to what he'd be getting in that 1st year of his next contract.

It's the security of that money guaranteed. No need to fear injury etc...

I get that but that has absolutely nothing to do with him getting ....blank... amount of money more. Thats just not true, sure people could and should say exactly what you just did because atleast that has some truth to it

It's true that the contract difference should factor in what the player could get for the 5th year if he was a free agent at that point. In Butler's case, I think there is a very high chance that amount would be $30+M less. Butler already has trouble staying on the court and 5 years from now (next season plus a new 4 year contract) I have little confidence he'll be able to get much on a contract. Based on guys like Noah and Deng there's a very real chance he'll be looking at a vet min deal.

I don't think Miami let's this get away. Minnesota's best bet is for Houston to make an awesome offer that forces the Heat's hand into adding Josh Richardson into the trade, other than that, I think you guys are getting Dragic, Winslow, and a first, and if Thibs decides we need to take Dieng then Riley will want you to take Waiters in addition.

That's just my gut feeling on these negotiations and how it ultimately goes down.

It was really stupid lol. Like cringe stupid.

Jimmy and his agent are basically in control of this whole situation. If he were to get trade knowingly or unknowingly his agent would still know before woj.

It was cringe stupid...yikes.

But Jimmy and his agent aren't really in control. What's in control are what teams are willing to offer. He could really go to the Kings if they gave us something worth trading for..

Teams will know if Jimmy is going to re-sign from his agent, but it's just a matter of time before someone is like "we'll take the risk"

I think you guys are taking my words a little too literally.

All I meant is jimmy won’t be traded blindly the way derozan was. I’m sure every team who has attempted to trade for him has been in contact with his agent. Especially a team like the kings who would be forced to trade good players like deaaron fox or something

Miami Needs butler badly, I do think Houston is leverage to make Miami put Richardson in the deal if he’s not already in there. At this point I’d prob take waiters off Miami too if I’m Minnesota (assuming gorgui is going somewhere too).

At this point... I'd take a chance at getting a a player with a high ceiling, go get Fultz and hopefully get Covington with him for Butler. I don't know if Fultz can shoot from the outside all that well, but he has great vision, knows how to manipulate the defense to create passing lanes and looks like he's relearning to shoot.

No way in Hell you could get me to take Waiters off Miami's hands. I'd much rather have Gorgui. Maybe if Miami was including Richardson Bam and two first round picks.

It would take a LOT of convincing to get me to take Fultz unless he was just a throw in. I can't imagine he can come back from what I saw last year.

I just watched their game tonight, he's confident, he did a few little things that shows he may be a special player, had good vision also. Now, the shot further then the FT line is probably questionable but he looked smooth on his shots. Even if he doesn't regain his good shooting, he'll do good, get a good shot back and he'll be dangerous. He's what, 20? You can reteach a shot, ask Curry about that, his dad made him change his shot in HS. Fultz even had a chase down block.

I'm reserving final judgment, but I know what I saw last year. The worst shooting I have ever seen from an NBA basketball player.

Interesting article on the Butler situation from the perspective of Gibson and Rose.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/24826335/minnesota-timberwolves-teammates-caught-guard-jimmy-butler-trade-demand

It doesn't sound like things were as obviously bad in the locker room as has been portrayed in these forums. It also sounds like Gibson (who worked out with Butler in the off-season) had no idea Jimmy would sit out and try to force a trade.

So if the rockets offer is this bad, then the heat offer must have been just as brutal. Like a whiteside and waiters package type brutal.

Let jimmy sit out the year. Maybe he can fulfill his needs as a diva as a youtuber.

Again, what the eff are the other teams in the league doing if they let Jimmy go to Houston? Hell I would be tempted to trade fo him just to KEEP HIM AWAY from Houston.

If Houston isn’t isnt willing to put Tucker on the table, why would Minny even listen?

It will take more than one short jump shot to convince me he is fixed. On the block he almost decapitated the guy and they didn't call the foul?

Ok, his free throws looked good too but most of his shots came attacking the basket.
