What stops Middleton from declining his player option and leaving us as well?

Won't we have Bird rights and the ability to pay him more than anyone else. I absolutely think Middleton is worth a max contract.

Be smart, give guys who actually can dominate games maxes and anyone else try to get a good value.

It was from earlier in a story on espn. I guess some people have heard that Milwaukee may make the offer, Zach Lowe hasn't said they are.

The advantage to Porter is that despite being possibly overpaid he is at least signed for three more years so we don't need to worry about trying to replace him in a year.
Middleton though has always been the best possible player we could get IMO. Top 30 in the league. His contract is up next year, but I think we would have Bird rights or wouldn't we.
I absolutely believe he is a Max player.

Thibs has not finished yet. We may end even worse (like losing LaVine, Dunn and Markkanen for nothing or losing playoffs next 2 years because of his hilarious management) if we don't find a good trade for Butler.

a lot of you guys act like we gave up LaVine Dunn and Markennen for nothing. I like Zach but he aint worth the money. Dunn is looking like a bust and this other kid is meh and now is out for a few months. None of those guys will turn into what JB brought here for 1 year. its too bad it did not work out but to put the blame on Tibbs is a bit off. I see a team step up their offer in the next couple weeks and get it done.

He was just speculating about potential packages. This twitter account makes it look like it was reported by Lowe which isn't true.

AirP you are a very knowledgeable basketball mind, but I don't think you get how the NBA works salary wise. A top 30 player like Middleton without question is worth a max contract.

Basketball Rehab tweets a lot of things that are not necessarily true. Take anything with a grain of salt.

Mil actually has some salary that can be moved, only Illysova and Lopez are Dec. 15 restricted

We can still come out of this with more than we gave up. Or a lot less. Time will tell.

Unfortunately this Middleton report appears to be bogus. It was just rehashing speculation about what it might take for Milwaukee to get Butler. Not anything they are prepared to offer as far as I can tell.

I think Washington could put together a better offer, but something built around Middleton would beat most of the currently rumored deals. The main concern would be Middleton's being a free agent at the end of the year.

The Milwaukee contracts of Henson, Snell, and Dellavadova are really bad. I think I'd rather keep Dieng over taking back any of those players.

I wouldn't waste a max on him. He's averaged 20 ppg once in his career(last year), 4 asts, 5.2 reb, 36% from 3pt range and his ortg - drtg was 0(-3 the year before) but his vorp was 1.8.

If you're willing to give the max to someone like that, you better hope to retain Butler, he's a way more dominate player, pay him the max and just hope the cap keeps going up where his last year of the deal won't be nearly as bad as it would be using the current scale. As bad as people think the last year or 2 of his salary will be, they're looking at it form the current scale, not what it should be. I'm telling you people, with Butler this team will be close if not a contender this year, the added depth will help greatly with not just the bench but the ability to put defensive lineups on the floor when you need a stop. Middleton is no where close to Butler as a difference maker and only 2 years younger.

Read on Twitter

Also, don't adding bad contracts with Towns locked up, get the best contracts you can and hopefully add another difference maker in a the near future.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
