Is that really that surprising? We are talking about a coach who absolutely loves to go small. I've seen Barea, Yogi and Harris on the floor at the same time last season, which was Ricks 2nd most used lineup with Powell and Dirk completing them.

Just watched the highlights. I’m sold. Needs to trim down but he’s basically a 4 in today’s league. That jump shot is so wet.

I never watched Doncic play but the moment the Kings passed him up I knew he was headed towards an incredible career. That train is never late.

1. Dorian Finney-Smith started at PF, replacing injured Harrison Barnes who is expected to be the starting PF.
2. Carlisle loves playing with 3/4 guards together... Last season's second most played lineup included Barea, Ferrell and Devin Harris. If 6'3 Harris can play SF for Carlisle, 6'7 Doncic can play PF.

For me as a combo-guard but that might be a bad fit next to DSJ.

Well he is basically a combo guard in a PFs body...like Ben Simmons is a PG in a PFs body.

Simmons can legitimately defend 1-4, though. I don't have much faith in Doncic defending 4s on a consistent basis.

i don't know about defending 1-4, but i can imagine luka being able to defend simmons. we might actually get so see this in a week, since they play 2 preseason games against each other

offensively Doncic is probably already better than whatever "peak Lonzo Ball" will be....

Kid is special. No idea what the Hawks were thinking, although I'll reserve my full judgement for 2 years from now.
Good assessment:

Did you guys see what Doncic did to the sharks today?!

Arguably one of the best teams in the world and got 16 flippin points!

Truly the wonder boy.

i think detlef schrempf is a better comparison

I can see the Detlef Schrempf comparison. Pretty accurate.

... Poor Detlef. He never should have come to the US and played college ball. Should have stayed in Europe and won a few Championships. Would've been a Hall of Famer by now.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

I really believe that Trae can have more impact than Doncic

WHo cares what his position on start game sheet, its how often he actually gets to play make what matters. I watched first half of Dallas game, and he stood in the corner a bit too much for my liking, but he had moments where he was pushing the ball. One of his signature skills is run coast to coast and create fast break after defensive rebound, his first points where exactly that.
I hope he gets to play make more often, but its not like he was Amir johnson right there

I love Trae, but i dont see it. The game changer in that trade can only be that pick Dallas sent. if atlanta get someone like Zion out of that deal, people gonna forget about Doncic.

Doncic looks good so far. His handling looks kind of slow but he seems crafty with high IQ and a nice stroke

Would of liked to see him against nba comp though but so far so good

He is one of the safest picks from the last 2 decades, how could he bust? His style is literally tailor-made for the space and pace, even if he is a horrible defender - which he won't be -, his passing and b-ball IQ alone would stop him from becoming a bust. One of the weirdest takes. Or you are a hater, and want this to happen, I guess that could be it as well.

He is unplayable at his natural position so they want to find a way how they can use him bc he is their lottery pick
