Preseason Game 1: Kings @ Suns, Mon 10/1, 7:00 PM

Post#1 » by Saberestar » Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:41 pm

The long wait is over!!

We can watch tomorrow the first game of our new and fresh roster under Igor Kokoskov.

A lot of needed changes have been made on the team...eight new players and a complete different coaching staff.

Hopefully the rebuilding is finally over and this is the first game of a succesful era for the Suns.

Normally each year on the Suns roster I don't like 1-2 players (Mike James etc.). This season I like every player on the roster. That doesn't necessarily mean anything but it is a nice feeling.

Sucks we don't get to see the team with Booker but I'm glad they're playing it safe with his hand.

"Cautiously optimistic" is the perfect sentiment. We aren't sniffing the playoffs but I believe we will compete most nights and that the blowouts are a thing of the past. Ayton is the single most important piece on this team right now. I want him to stick to Igor's instruction tomorrow but I hope he shows up and proves why he was #1.

Even though it appears to be on League Pass, I don't think this game will be televised.

How about radio? I'll be at work and that'd be my only option to listen to it live.

Yeah, it's a shame that we are not gonna know if the game is televised until the start of the game.

The same **** every year with preseason games.

Hopefully Reddit has one of those in arena streams going at least.

"Home games will be streamed live on Suns.com through the RISE Network"

It will be geo-blocked as always but it shouldn't be too hard to find a stream.

They definitely will if it's on league pass. I've found all the others I've looked for so far.

Why did I think Ann Meyers Drysdale retired? I must have dreamt it, or maybe I read something about when she retired from playing and was just happily imagining her retiring from broadcasting.

So many new players too.....can't wait to hear what their names are according to her.

Of course anyone can edit these and not the most accurate source but Wiki mentions she retired in mid July and you may have got it from there:

On July 11, 2018 she announced her retirement from the Phoenix Suns broadcasting team as the color analyst.

I didn't get it from there. I certainly don't keep tabs on her wiki page, but they probably got it from wherever I saw it.

Read on Twitter

Igor Kokoskov isn’t overly concerned about who starts.

He’s more focused on who plays a major part in winning.

To him, much shouldn’t be made of the Phoenix Suns’ starting five for tonight’s preseason opener at 7 against Sacramento at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

“I know fans want to see, but that’s our strength,” the first-year NBA head coach said. “We can start a lot of guys. There’s a term, fake starter. You can start whoever, but what matters is who wins the games.”

Suns.com is streaming the game as it can only be seen within a 75-mile radius of Phoenix. Kokoskov said he expects to play the starters “15 minutes” against the Kings.

“It’s hard to coach a game to lose, but I’d rather see some guys play more minutes to see how they’re going to respond,” he said. “Accepting coaching. Information. Concepts. New terminology. Reaction. When they get tired and fatigued. That’s my thing.”

Kokoskov understands players are “competitors,” and want to win, but he’s looking to play as many players as possible and start to establish some sort of identity.

“Shot selection,” he said. “Floor balance affects our transition defense. We don’t want to look like a bunch of guys just hooping. We want to play basketball. Transition defense kind of reflects discipline on a team because of shot selection, bad shots, turnovers, there’s no transition defense. That’s a first element as a viewer, as a fan, you see how much discipline you have.”

Usually Wiki sources a link to their claims but they didn’t on this one.
