Jimmy Butler Skeptical Wolves Actually Searching For Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Oct 1, 2018 12:24 pm

Jimmy Butler and his representatives have grown frustrated by how the Minnesota Timberwolves have handled his trade talks. Butler's camp have become skeptical of whether the Wolves are truly trying to find a deal.

While Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden were reportedly uninterested in working on a deal as they preferred to keep Butler, owner Glen Taylor intervened that he would entertain trade offers from owners and GMs.

The Wolves continue to have an asking price for Butler that is way too high for teams.

Butler was excused from training camp last week.

While the Wolves have claimed Butler's trade request in September left them blindsided, a source says Butler and Thibodeau met in Los Angeles in early August where he conveyed a desire to move on from the Wolves.

If you put your team in a terrible leverage position by demanding a trade, skipping training camp and listing only 3-4 teams you want to play for, you can’t then turn around and complain when it doesn’t happen quickly. Duh.

If Butler wanted out so badly he should have let the Wolves know about this back in June, I cant ever remember a team being put in a worse situation to trade an all star level player.

Well I hope they stop paying him now. This is a BS move.

Not sure why the front office is trying to act like this is surprise. I wasn't exactly a secret that Butler was unhappy and was likely going to leave as a free agent. They let it fester and just hoped things would improve. Well? This is what usually happens when you take that approach.

Yeah, I don't know why they excused him. If he doesn't want to show up, then fine him. If he shows up, let him do yoga by himself for 10 hours and then go home.

Someone mentioned a while back that the Wolves should just cut him, thereby resulting in the next team that signs him losing his Bird rights, meaning less money for him hitting him where it hurts

I used to love Jimmy Butler's rags to riches story; more and more I am secretly hoping to see the Wolves actually cut him

I wish a team would just refuse to trade these types of players. Let them sit out a year.

So you blame the Wolve's front office for not reading Butler's mind and trading him before he actually asked to moved? And how did they 'let it fester' over the summer? They didn't play a single game. Butler was living in a different city. This doesn't make any sense

If you're going to do that, just trade him to the Kings for a couple protected picks. It's not like they can't get anything for him, don't let him walk for nothing.

The players have too much power. They use the media to pressure their employers to get what they want.

I say go the route of San Antonio. Send Butler to a team willing to take the risk of keeping him and move on.

No way would I give him what he wants.

The Wolves do not owe Butler a trade. They can hold out for a good deal for as long as they like.

And then the team ends up getting jack **** when the player leaves. The team becomes worse, and people get fired.

I would say to them... congratulations. You played yourself

If it wan't a high profile player maybe the Wolves could have kept it under their hat.
Butler is going into a contract year will be available in fa in 2019,so right now only contenders who want an upgrade shipping out a very good fringe allstar on a longer deal are going to get Minnesota to agree to ship Butler.
Wolves will be immediately worse defensively without him,and likely want or need replacement value on the court if they are hellbent on making the playoffs in 2019 not in draft assets forcing a leap backwards.Good luck with that...
Wolves are asking for a lot more than any team not a contender in the league is capable of justifying until they shift their attention on trading Butler and Teague together to N.O. for Jrue,Hill,Bluiett and the Pels first. wrap it up and ship it.

The best reported player being made available for Butler is Gordon. He is a nice player, but the deal needs to be better than that for the Wolves to consider it. If a reasonable offer comes along the Wolves will send Butler away. If not they won't and Butler would screw himself beyond repair if he doesn't report for work.

Why? How does the team benefit by trying to get back at Jimmy Butler instead of working for their own best interest? That's not a good way to do business.

did it also occur to him that the teams vying for his services are actually not offering equal-value players cuz he's just a rental anyways?

Should have agreed to play, declared dunking as overated, shared team plays with the opposition, and refused to drive to the net, while taking contested fade-away jumpers.

That has worked in the past.
