I can understand it. James has a set amount of pitches/innings that he goes before Cox takes him out, and itt's been that way all season long. James throws with his arm, so he can't last too long out there. Whenever he gets to a certain amount of pitches, he always seems to start screwing things up.
It was a precautionary move, and a decent one considering the game was tied. Moylan didn't mess it up in the 7th; Escobar's error is what allowed that run to score.

I can understand the arguement for keeping him in. Like I said, it was a "decent" move, meaning Cox could have gone either way with it. The problem I have is that Chuck almost always starts screwing up if he is kept in the game for too long. His last start is a good example, where Joe Simpson mentioned in the 6th inning that "if James is going to falter, this would be about the time he'd do so" (or something along those lines). Sure enough, he gave up a couple of hits and was taken out of the game.
In last night's case, we were in a tight 4-4 game, so Cox and McDowell didn't take a chance. And in the end, we only gave up one unearned run the rest of the way, so it worked out fine. Considering the bulk of James' strength comes from his arm and not his legs and he tires earlier than most pitchers, it was a precautionary move.
