What Was the Worst Laker Season Since 2000?

Post#1 » by Tiesto_Lakers » Fri Sep 28, 2018 2:49 pm

2004-2005: Missed the playoffs, had an entire roster-flip. Had a ton of injuries. Saw role players from Finals team fade away into the darkness (Medvedenko, George, Fox, Rush, Grant, etc.).
2005-2006: Blew a 3-1 lead to the Suns.
2006-2007: Got beat by the Suns. Wasted another year of Kobe greatness.
2010-2011: Got swept in an embarrassing way while trying to 3-peat.
2011-2012: Over-achieved, but should have taken the Thunder to 7 games.
2012-2013: Big time underachieving team. Began the year as title favorites with 4 HOFers. Ended the year scrapping for playoffs.
2013-2014: First year of lottery era. D'Antoni quits after season.
2014-2015: Another horrible year. Had some bad lineups that included Clarkson, Ellington, Kelly, Black and Sacre. Lin, Boozer, and Kobe were all disappointing.
2015-2016: Kobe's last season. Winning was last on the agenda.
2016-2017: The Deng and Mosgov era starts.

Don’t think anything comes close to 12-13 season. Team had high expectations which ended with Kobe tearing his Achilles, Nash forced into early retirement, Howard being the worst fit in LA ever.

Cemented the end of any hopes for competing for a title for the foreseeable future and certainly for the rest of Kobe’s career.

Any season we don't win the title feels like the worst to me.

The Chucky Atkins, Tierre Brown and Smush days were some dark times in Laker defense history.

You could see this coming.... The Howard and Nash moves were the acts of pure desperation and it ended like most acts of desperation.... unfortunately.

None of these were as bad as 84.... period!

2011, no brainer. Getting swept by the freaking Mavs was just one of the most embarrassing memories as a Laker fan.

Depends on your criteria- 2013 was definitely the most disappointing season. But when you factor in excitement, having something to play for/etc, 2005 and 2014/2015 are up there for me, even ahead of 2013.

2013 was terrible, but until the day Kobe has achilles injury, I still had hope in that team, especially how they were closing it, and I definitely enjoyed watching Kobe that year even if Dwight and Nash etc were frustrating. That team was watchable and until the very end there was hope.

2005 was terrible. Frustrating team to watch. Injuries. No real hope the whole second half of the season. All while watching Shaq dominate in Miami.

2014 was even worse- Kobe was clearly done at this point. In 2014 we still had some hope. We lost our first round pick on the first game of the season. Byron Scott was the freaking coach. No young talent to root for. No Kobe to make games watchable. and no hope what so ever. That season was depressing. The year before wasn't much better, don't get me wrong, but the year after (2016) we had some hope for the future with Dlo/Nance/Healthy Randle, and we also had kobe's farewell tool to make games worth watching.

2017 was a blessing in comparison with hope surrounding Luke joining us etc, and 2018 was obviously not comparable as we were actually decent and had so much to be excited about.

But 2014/2015, and 2005 are the bleakest most dissapointing years that I've had as a laker fan (from 2001 to now ). 2005 was depressing because the Shaq/Kobe era was clearly and officially over. 2014 was depressing because the Kobe era was officially over. 2015 was depressing from start to end, there was no hope. Literally from game one of the season, all hope was gone. No hope that Kobe might come back from the achilles better than expected...no hope that we might have drafted a beast in Randle. and worse of all....Byron Scott.

The Byron era had the worst record, but in my opinion, the lowest quality of basketball was demonstrated in the Mike Brown era. He somehow made the game even more boring, slowed down, and ugly than Scott/D'Antoni did, regardless of the record. It was arguably more depressing to watch than the bad teams that at least had some young players on it. The 2011/12 Lakers were old and duct taped together.

2005 w/ the Rudy T/Hamblen switch was heinous as well, but they closed the year out losing 19 of their last 21. They flirted around with the 8th seed until March. There was at leas a glimmer of hope for part of the season and a younger Kobe that we knew had a bunch more years left after 2005 was over.

At least games were fun to watch when pre achilles Kobe was around. 2014-2015 wins with all those G_league players on our roster, and Kobe one half a leg. Accidently voted for 2016-2017 and can't change it though.

13-14 through 16-17 was a giant sh** sandwich.

It was Kaman sleeping on bench. Sacre mighta done it too....but it was Kaman that made the news that night. That same season we had the game where we had to keep a guy out there after 6-fouls because we had nobody else (so many freakin injuries!). I believe that was Kaman too.

13-14 was the "turkey & sh** sandwich"
14-15 was the "rouben sh** sandwich" (hold the 'crout...extra sh** please
15-16 was the "roast beef & sh** sandwich"
16-17 was the "meatball & sh** sub"

I'm just gonna call those years the "meat lovers & sh** sandwich"
