Update:

The reason this deal has not been officially made as of 1:15pm central standard time is Miami has yet to make the SAC deal happen as of yet.

Minnesota will get Richardson + Whiteside
Miami will get Butler + 2019/20 cap space, which involves taking on expiring contract of SAC player in return of SAC taking on Dieng.

Minnesota may even have to give small asset (2nd rounder) toward SAC.

This deal needs to include SAC to get Heat onboard.

Inertia will bring this deal to a close in a very short time.

Stay tuned.

I don't know if K. Love ever firmly stated why he wanted out, I would assume it's that and because the Wolves had been bad for so long. With KG, I just remember seeming hurt after finding out the Wolves were trying to trade him. People just assumed he wanted out because it had been speculated that he would force his way out for such a long time.

Well it's been said by numerous people that KG and Glen Taylor didn't see eye to eye, but Minnesota had been his home for years by then. Butler who is aligned with the coach/POBO wants out so to me that seems to be something coming from ownership because I think if it weren't, Thibs would have done something.

I don’t think Taylor and KG did see eye to eye but that doesn’t mean KG is the one who initiated the divorce (it was probably actually McHale).
I think it’s probably oversimplifying things to blame Taylor for Butler wanting out.

I'm not saying there's not other things other then the money.
Butler was open to coming to Minnesota long term, he even mentioned that in an interview with David Aldrich in January.
We know the coach/POBO is enamored with him as a player to the point he traded a bunch of assets for him a year ago and doesn't want to move him now.
If he wanted out during the season, I would have thought he'd sit out with his hand injury(which he ended up having surgery for) then risk more injury to it if he was thinking of forcing himself out then.

Something happened between the end of the season when Butler came back and when he got his offer from Minnesota, if he didn't want to be in Minnesota at that point why even look at the offer?

Maybe Towns gave an ultimatum, that's possible but I don't consider that a very big possibility.

Don’t know. It’s not a given. Minnesota giving up some targeted assets to get Richardson in the deal.

I believe Riley is just holding off to see if he can actually pull this off without Richardson, but I seriously doubt that if the Heat were pushed, that they’d never include him.

I think this is the kind of deal that will get done.

Miami can either send their 2019 FRP or Winslow to SAC to take on Dieng. If MIN is adamant about not wanting HW, maybe MIA replaces HW with Olynyk or JJ.

What do you guys think?

Part of me likes Whiteside. Players that can rebound and block shots. For whatever reason Olynyk played ahead of Whiteside last year and his contract is less than half. Give me Olynyk in that deal.

I just have a hard time imagining us trading for Whiteside, and risking KAT asking to be traded next year.

Might not happen, but why risk it at all?

If the deal is sending out Butler and Dieng for Whiteside and Richardson...

Whiteside would be a major upgrade with interior defense, Richardson is your defensive replacement for Butler and Towns, Wiggins, Teague and Richardson can compensate a good portion of Butler's offense although overall will be less efficient.

I think the ceiling is much lower for the Timberwolves with that type of trade but the added defense should help make sure you don't lose to bad teams as much.

Also, if you can get Patton back healthy, Gibson as an expiring contract could be moved for an additional longer term asset.

He has no leverage. What's he going to do sit out or fake injuries for 4-6 years? He has a lot of money riding on making the all-nba team again.

I just can't see KAT being that upset over bringing in Whiteside to play the 5. Again, if this doesn't work out this year, we have Whiteside's massive expiring to offer in a potential move to get a different piece. I have my doubts that this is the trade that is going to go down....but the more I look at it, I think we are a much better team if it does....(from a strictly fit standpoint.)

I believe so, it should have been written in there. Westbrooks was written in such a way when the D.Rose rule came in effect, it changed his contract which led to OKC eventually moving Harden to stay under the tax.

I think they're pretty good friends. Hassan posted on his spapchat last year KAT having dinner at his house after a game. Unless you meant the on court/position fit.

I agree. Make the other player with Richardson Olynyk.

Towns follows him on instagram so that would indicate some sort of friendship.

Isn’t Towns and Whiteside good friends? I’ve seen them post pics together hanging out. I don’t think there’d be any offcourt issues.

I also don’t think Towns has any leverage to ask for a trade considering he is under contract for the next 6 seasons.

Well then I’m sure he’d be happy to have him come here to play center then.

MIN’s future is 100% incumbent on Towns, growing and remaining happy here. Why risk it?

This is the NBA. This happens all the time. If a star wants out, it happens.

Usually they are the end of their contracts (last year or 2)when they start making demands. At least that’s been my perception of it.
