I'd rather take mid range shots if we're only going to hit 25% of our threes.

Hopefully that improves in a hurry.

We were one of the top teams shooting from 3 last season but that was with Harris. Harris was a great shooter. It really just depends on Blake and how well he's developed from beyond the arc. I don't believe he regressed, should show some improvement going forward. We'll see what happens.

Cmon snakes, shooting 25% from three as a team would be almost as hard to do as shooting 50% from three as a team.(lowest in the league last year was 33.4 PHX highest 39.1 GSW)

Besides that, if Kennard and Bullock start, I'm not concerned.

Hell the Pistons were 5th in the league last year in 3p% with stanley taking 3.4 a game and only hitting 28.6%.

I have no doubt the Pistons 3p% is going to be lower this year(losing Tobias, and tolly)but I dont think it's going to be drastic.

we shot 37% as a team and it was pretty clear which players brought that up:

- bullock (44.5%, took 11.8% of the team's threes)
- tolliver (43.6%, took 15.4%)
- kennard (41.5%, took 8.2%)
- harris (40.9%, took 11.6%)
- bradley (38.1%, took 8.2%)

no other player shot above 35%, but the biggest culprits for bringing our percentages down were reggie (30.8% on 7.1% of team attempts) and SJ (28.6% on 9.9% of team attempts).

losing tolliver and harris definitely hurts but there's reason to believe other guys will shoot better. reggie shot 31% but clearly wasn;t himself last season, i think we can expect that to be closer to the 35-36% he shot the two previous seasons. stanley *looked* good shooting in the first preseason game and him improving anything on his 29% would be huge since it looks like he'll be a starter with lots of chances to shoot from deep. in fact our other three wings (bullock, kennard and GR3) should all shoot 40%+ from 3 so if SJ is even decent this year it'll give reggie, blake and drummond good spacing.

there are other guys too, like ish smith. in the second half of last season he shot 39.7% from deep and while that might be a bit ambitious to keep up i could see him shooting something around 35%. he just has to make sure he shoots off the dribble because he definitely doesn't have the strength to catch and shoot with the crazy hitch on his shot. leuer is a complete wildcard but shot 38% the season before he came to detroit and galloway shot 39% the season before he joined us.

so while we might not be one of the most accurate teams from 3 this year i think we'll still be above average and the whole point is that greater volume on average 3 point shooting is better than shooting an excellent percentage from mid range.

Not really. If Ish Smith, Stanley Johnson and Andre Drummond are shooting a lot of 3's, 25% is not an absurd number for us :banghead:

We lost Tobias Tolliver and Avery Bradley and they were 3 of our top 5 3 point shooters.

eh - I think our shooters are fine. RJ should be better from distance than having ish as a starter. We added another wing shooter. I expect blake to improve. Leuer is a wild card. He's literally ranged for 0% to 47% in various years.

The real question is whether we get our shooters quality looks at a decent clip. Bullock, Kennard and RG3 are certainly all capable of shooting over 40%.

looks like blake likely won't be playing today. i'm not fussed to be honest, since there are other guys that need the reps a lot more than him.

I'm holding out hope that a Blake/Butler trade is being discussed

Seriously, why is Griffin not playing!? He is 100% healthy... Does chemistry not matter? Stupid move to not play the starting lineup and get the rust shaken off and build chemistry before game 1 imo.

Why? They are the same age and Griffin is better and is locked up long term...

And Griffin will be three years after this one. Butler would want 5 yrs 190M after this one. Unless you want to let Butler walk and just make the trade to get out of Griff's deal.

That’s cool, maybe Lonnie walker will start for the spurs? They were both teammates at Miami.

My God, I know this is preseason but our starting lineup is a joke.

I'm glad Bruce Brown is getting playing time by the way.
