And what if that player helps his team by his overall play? What if he's been one of only three effective players throughout the entire preseason?

As Kokoskov has preached, he wants to utilize players in the context they are good at and focus on bringing out their strengths. You don't want players trying to do too much if it will hurt their team. Not shooting and finding a better shot with team strength context is better than taking poor shots. That should be evident having watched this team the past few years.

Re: Preseason Game 3: Portland Trail Blazers @ Phoenix Suns
When Booker gets back, he will make a HUGE difference. Basically add 20-25 points to our score. We beat the Kings, kill New Zealand, and maybe beat Portland with him.
JJ looks awful. I think he is trying too hard. Last year, he started slow and played with a chip on his shoulder because he was pissed that he didn't go #1. I think this year, he is feeling the heat from Booker (max extension) and Ayton (hyped top pick) and is worried about carving out his place. I think (hope) that the game will slow down for him in the regular season and he can get back to his impressive end of 2017-2018 form.
Holmes is trash
TJ looks solid as usual.

Nope. I still think he is better suited coming off the bench in a Sixth-man role. To me, to be a real starter in this league you have to offer your team more than just getting points. It also irks the hell out of me that his 3 point shot has been broken since he came into the league, and instead of working on it and getting better, it just got worse and worse to a point that he refuses to shoot unguarded open 3's. How you going to be a damn non-defensive SF in this league that cant shoot a 3?? If trading him for a better player that would start for us and makes us a better team, im all for it, because the league is filled with guys who can score the ball if given the opportunity. We need difference makers, and to me that not really Warren.

No one is watching the Suns except super die hard fans, and they should certainly be used to this.
If they are not expecting a bunch of blowout bad losses this year, I am not sure what to tell them.
We will be competitive sometimes and maybe surprise but we are going to look bad a lot. We are picked to finish with like the 3rd or 4th worst record, and while I think we very well could be better, it is going to be a tough season for us...not as tough as last, or probably the last 3, but tough....especially if we don't have a pg emerge or get traded for.
We are still really young. It will be interesting to see how engaged a guy like Ariza stays or if he will want to get traded around the deadline.
I certainly expected this team to finish with like 10th-12th seed in the West this season.
Which teams do you expect to finish behind us? I think we could surprise, but I think most other teams look like they could too outside of the Kings. If healthy, I definitely expect the Clips, Grizz and Mavs to finish ahead given their good vets..and they have nice rookie additions too. I think we could surprise, just hard without a PG.
I think the Suns should have the expectation of finishing higher than Dallas, Sacramento, Minnesota (assuming they trade Butler) and Memphis at the very least.
Some of those teams have good vets but McD said his job this summer was to get good vets as well to counter that which he did by acquiring Ariza, Holmes and Anderson, so by his expectation, that should be enough of the vets (including Tyson as well). Booker is a rising star, and Ayton looks ready to play so just based off talent alone (albeit flawed roster balance), the Suns should be finishing above those teams imo.
We certainly have more top lottery selections on the roster than all those teams and should account for something.
If it’s another 14th finish in the West then I’m not sure how the team can be considered to be trending upwards.

I definitely wouldn't expect Dallas who was better, already had vets and had the best FA acquisition of those bottom teams in Jirdan and one of the top prospects in the draft....and have a great coach, plenty of distributors, shooters and a vet defensive finishing C in the middle.
Grizzlies were tough when Conley was healthy and beat the Rockets twice early lays year. They have two close to all star caliber players, a top pick in the draft...probably best def and 3 pt shooting big. I think their FA additions were decent with slo mo and Temple. I also like Brooks.....Dillon, but Marshon was balling late too. For them it depends on health.
Twolves - depends on trade return if one is made.

He is one of the 3 NBA players on Suns roster. He should start at least for now.

The hate for Warren is starting to rival that of PJ Tucker. TJ should be a starter. Let's be clear who shouldn't even be considered a sixth man ... JJ. JJ doesn't even look to be anything but a bench warmer with his tendency to chuck or turnover the ball. Our 2017 #4 pick is starting to remind me of Mike James.

Except the hate for Tucker was justified. He didn't belong on this team.

Yeah instead he is a starter on a 60 win team. Tucker next to Ayton versus Anderson next to Ayton? Which one would you want?

This team doesn't need a low-character player. We have had enough **** personalities in the last few years. Believe or not I care about players that are decent human beings off the court.

Did I miss something? When did Tucker become a low character player? I remember Tucker busting ass every game with max hustle and defense for a team that didn’t have a chance to make the playoffs.

Apparently some people around here have a real problem with nachos.

Yeah, I thought it was ironic how so many wanted to get rid of him, but at the time it kind of made sense since he was expiring, but I found it funny when Rockets fans on the GB were responding to me saying "Anderson was a starter on the best team in the league" with "Well he lost that job to Tucker and certainly wasn't getting it back" that we basically traded Tucker for nothing and then ended up with a much more expensive vet who was replaced by Tucker because they were so much better with Tucker and Anderson had become useless against GS and some other teams.
On top of that, we spent all our cap space on a 3D vet wing who isn't quite the defender Tucker is.

I absolutely hated trading Tucker.
He wanted to be a Sun for life and he is a terrific defender. Tough as nails and he is always injury free.
Another mistake by McDonough.

PJ was one of the most underappreciated players during his time on our team. We weren't very good and made him the scapegoat of a lot of our problems because he's made some bone handed turnovers every now and then and had that drink driving issue.

You knew he left it all on the floor if you watched, but when he left the team, it felt like the glue evaporated and it has been a disaster since. I know we were not very good when we traded him, but we went from bad to just getting blown out and not being competitive at all unless everyone happened to be on fire. He is a difference maker.
I wonder what his on/off #s were in his last year or two here.
