Why even waste your time with advanced stats on a 3 preseason game sample size?

Why would anyone consider Doncic a ROY favourite ?

Deandre has put better stats so far. Luka looks fat/out of shape, so curious to see how he does over 82 games.

Of course, that doesn't mean Jackson won't turn out to be the better player. He's definitely a better defender, no question about that.

I think the biggest difference, at least right now, between the two is that Jaren has a much more consistent motor and "want to," or at least that's what's been evidenced to date. It shows up particularly on the defensive end but in general, that was a knock on Ayton as a prospect
.

None of this has proven to be true so far this preseason.I never had the chance to watch Ayton in college, but judging by the general consensus, I expected him to be a horrible defensive player. So far, it looks like a bunch of bologna. He's looking pretty damn good on defense.

Ayton's averaging like 13 rebs a game right now

Riiight. People struggle to see what their eyes perceive over what they have been told. Ayton has been solid all around, even getting in some foul trouble because of his "want to." Also, being a better "perimeter" player doesn't mean he is better offensively. Ayton PnR, post up, and elbow game is more devastating and impactful than a 7 footer hoisting up three's at a 35% rate and being out of position for offensive rebounds. Dude's getting everyone open looks at the basket from those three plays; from the three point line to lay-ups.

He makes Ryan Anderson look athletic atm, that's for sure. After watching him in Euroleague last season I can say he has definitely added unneeded weight over the summer.

He was a pretty good one on one defender in college, and even blocking shots in that respect. It's more of the team defense, awareness, rolling back to the rim for help defense and stuff. Everything he was good at in college has translated really well though, at least through the preseason which is nice, and I think he will improve with the other stuff.

I want to see Ayton take a 3 or two a game...

At the 00:52 mark I think Ayton should have launched that because his defender was sagging off on him.

Eventually ayton will have to add a 3 ball to his game. It would be an extreme failure of player development if he doesn’t develop a 3 ball.

Totally disagree. I prefer 4 shooters getting open threes because he is rolling to the hoop and he is down there for the rebound, versus him shooting a three with no rebounding. Should have drafted Bamba if that’s what you want at C, A 3D guy. High efficiency scoring is what you want, people assume that 3’s are the only way to to do it, I disagree. If you have a behemoth down low then utilize him, if not then get a 3 Point shooting C, that really does not exist outside of Markkenen, unless you count these undersized 6’7 guys a C’s Who Ayton would destroy. Ayton shoots 70% on them and they shoot 35% on him, however Ayton opens it up for the others to shoot a better percent from three than the other team and gives us better rebounding thus more shots.

Should have drafted Bamba if we wanted to shoot 3s? Bamba isn't a shooter. Ayton was much better from 3 in college (34.3% to Bamba's 27.5%) and is projected to be much better from 3 in the pros. Did you mean Jackson?

The point of ayton adding a 3 is to expand is his game and by doing so help us win more ballgames. There’s literally no reason he shouldn’t be adding it to his game because he is already fairly capable from mid range and free throws.

There will be plenty of scenarios where you want ayton at the 3 point line to space for a guy like JJ or Warren
