If Anthony Davis hits the block, the bidding would get extremely serious. I don't think Ainge would be able to cheap out on any deals and the Pelicans have historically been averse to tanking and would likely want players who could produce immediately. Lots of teams would be offering up allstars - heck the Wizards could get into the fray if they really wanted, though with Ernie I'm not even sure it's advisable for them to try. I think Tatum would have to be part of the package from the Celtics and there would need to be substantially more, too.

The Celtics with Davis would be very good, but they're already very good. I feel that teams like the Raptors, Lakers and Warriors are going to drive the bidding up to the point where it's costly no matter what. I'm not actually too worried about the Celtics in that respect. I don't actually think the Celtics are in a situation where they're best off paying for a star. They'll likely be trolling for a cheap deal with Davis, and I'm sure they'd jump at that chance, but as with Kawhi, I'm not so sure they'd be well served to throw Tatum and Brown together in a package for Davis, for example. They still have another high pick coming up. If they can get another hit there, Tatum, Brown and a third high pick is a solid foundation with a longer window while they wait things out while winning all the while.

I'm not so sure that's true. You do that and you wind up like the Pelicans. You need a way to add other players around him. AD is sort of a modern day KG, though KG at least made the playoffs all the time and was on a consistently good team despite horrible mismanagement around it was also a different time in the NBA back then. Anyone trading for AD is going to want to make sure they have a way to have a perimeter star on the roster as well as a quality perimeter-oriented supporting cast. And unless AD agrees to an extension as a part of the trade, having just signed with Rich Paul, I won't be surprised to find out there are loads of Lakers rumors as he approaches free agency which start scaring teams a bit.

Davis is going to be roughly the same age as Kawhi when the time Pelicans get to the point where they finally consider making a move. While the Kawhi injury was concerning, the injury concerns with Davis, given his size, are probably more significant overall and Kawhi is a better player, and despite that reality teams weren't exactly bending over backwards to trade for Kawhi. Things will get much muddier as time passes. If the Pelicans actually were to trade him this season, I suspect they'd get quite a bit more for him than they will in the end.

McDonough had a 5-year run, his career highlights have to be his trades with Ernie and drafting Devin Booker. Ernie goes into year 16

Dejounte Murray sucks for SA - can't see them making the playoff now without a trade. And Lonnie Walker is out a couple of months at least as well. What team has the most PGs available?

Murray out is a huge blow, you could arguably say he was the best defender at PG in the NBA

Not sure where they can get a PG. Maybe Derrick White is thrown to the fire and they keep Mills as the backup.

Yep, but that is then a non-playoff team (unless Pop pulls a miracle) Guess they get a mid-level draft pick next year + the 2019 first round draft pick from Toronto.

I am guessing Pop retires - going to be a weird rebuild for SA.

Pop and Aldridge both said he isn't retiring, he apparently is rejuvenated by all accounts

TBH, If I'm the Spurs and Pop wants to stay make one more 3 year run... I look to move on Butler.

They have legit vets in Derozan and Aldridge, a great system, young talent, and they dont get MAJOR cap relief for 3 years.

Offer Gasol, Bellineli and 2 picks (They have all their picks and the Raps pick)... Dieng for Mills swap could be included

Murray / White
Derozan / Walker
Butler / Walker
Gay / Bertans
Aldridge / Poeltl

I'll take that for a 3 year run

Not seeing why Minny would be interested in Gasol, so IMO you'll probably have to add a third team that needs a big man. Not sure who that is, tho.

For the Spurs, I actually kind of like that lineup. Problem is it might only last a year, and it's still a clear step below the Warriors IMO. If Butler walks, then what do the Spurs do with no Butler and no picks in 2019?

Yeah, I think SA is in for a long rebuild. They do have some nice young players but next year (IMO) they have to start the rebuild in earnest.

They have to take that chance if Pop is willing to do a 3 year run.
If they got a younger/rebuilding package for Kawhi, then maybe not... But the fact is they didnt.

If they can turn a disgruntled Kawhi that hasnt played in over a year and a 2021 1st into Derozan, Butler, and Poetl...That is a HUGE WIN.

If Butler walks, then they still would be out of the Pau & Belinelli contract and have about 20M in cap space... Not a bad risk mitigation.
But that squad is dangerous. Butler & Derozan >= Kawhi & Ginobili... you then add in young pieces like Poetl, Murray, White, Bertans, & Walker... I like it.

Oh, to Dckings... I dont think they would trade both 2019 picks. I would offer a 2019 pick and a lotto protected 2020 pick.

Again, you owe to Pop, the fan base, Demar, Lamarcus, etc. to make one more run if doable. Butler seems like a great fit for them.

Hamidou Diallo looks good so far in the preseason as well as in summer league. His jumpshot may not be where it should be but he has shown strides to improve in that area. I was high on him because of his athleticism and versatility. He is going to be a good role player for sure. Extremely disappointing that the team decided to pick Sanon over Diallo, KBD, and some others.

Deonte Burton has been trying to find a spot in the league since he came out of college in 2014. Wish him luck.

We talked about him back then....

Wait, that's all wrong.

There are two Deonte Burton's if you can believe it. The guy I mention above & the kid on the Thunder who came out of college in 2017 & went undrafted.

Christian Wood killing it for the Bucks. Filling the nets, grabbing lots of boards. Kid looks terrific.
