Not much, if any. Taj has a $14M expiring. Taylor would barely go over luxury.
Taj is Butler's boy, though. That wouldn't go over well.

They don't need to clear any space to sign him to a 5 year $190 million deal next summer, but the max extension he can sign right now is I believe 4 years $110 million, which he obviously turned down.

Supposedly Butler wanted to renegotiate and extend this summer to get paid more this year, which means they would have actually had to clear max salary under the cap. So yeah, they would have had to completely gut their roster to do that. Like, it would be Towns, Butler and a bunch of D-Leaguers. Especially when you factor in the kind of assets we would have to send out to clear that kind of space.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

Even with him being able to opt out next year, he's worth more then what's reportedly being offered to Minnesota. You don't give up an all-nba player for a solid value solid player and what would be a 20 something draft pick.

Yeah. It's funny why the Heat would have to protect the pick. It's Jimmy Butler, we gave up #7 for him.

Stan said it was the best practice the Wolves ever had. Majority of players were energized by him - just a couple were uncomfortable by his presence. Wiggins gave him a hand dap at end of practice.

OK so I did some research and you're right because it's a renegotiation it would've required cap space so needed to be one at the start of the summer. Methinks Glen was being cheap and vetoed it. Hopefully they can promise Jimmy the max next year or if locker room issue then take him to the trade deadline waiting for an acceptable offer.

And Jimmy said during interview, it has NOTHING to do with the players on the team. He loves the team, Jimmy said. Rachel respond, what is it then? Jimmy said, "nobody is being honest"

TruthSerum wrote:If this is a money issue with Jimmy why don't they just dump Dieng with a protected 1st and pay the man? 5yrs/$175M effective immediately.

They are $20 mil over the lux, and they need to get $30 mil under the lux to make that offer.

Taylor already offered him the max extension the nba allowed, but since it is far less than what the max would be for Jimmy at the end of the season, it was no surprise to anyone it was declined. There has been no indication whatsoever that Taylor was unwilling to give Jimmy the five year max at the end of the season. Taylor wasn’t being cheap.

Even Jalen Rose & Stan Van Gundy right now, says the "fixable" issue is money. So, who's at fault here? Layden or Taylor?

Ok you guys, you tell me how MIN could get $30 mil under the cap right now to pay Jimmy now? We are $20 mil over the cap right now. Very few teams still have cap space, I think SAC may have $10 mil left.

If Jimmy wanted this, it needed to be known last year, before Thibs signed Teague, Taj and Crawford in free agency to two year deals that match Jimmy’s.

I think it comes down to Taylor, I think we all know Thibs would give him the money to retain him so it could be Taylor not wanting to max him and Butler's side has been given this indication(this is what I've thought the whole time if it's about money). Another scenario would be Taylor saying Minnesota can't go over into the tax and the FO not being able to make moves to be able to max Butler.

Butler said it's fixable but he doubt it gets fixed so to me it sounds like he's open to staying with Minnesota, we just don't know what would have to be fixed.

Simple answer they can't from what I've seen but they should be dangling 5yrs/$190M for next season in his face. (And start of summer I think they could've did the renegotiation if they put their minds to it.)

Just stop. This has nothing to do with Taylor being unwilling to pay the tax, and everything to do with the rules of the CBA.

Something tells me that what happened today isn't far off from how practice was last year.
There is definitely a personality conflict there.

There is a fine line in sports when it comes to playing intense and emotional.
Some guys can play like that and keep there concentration, make all the right moves, and the adrenaline takes them to another level.
Other guys melt down and either simply fall apart, or try to do too much and walk right into the trap the opposition is setting for them.

KAT is probably our most emotional player. He plays really hard. But he hasnt developed the ability yet to use the adversity in a game to his advantage. Too much bitching to the refs. Not enough self assuredness in what needs to be done. Not always the same intensity on both ends of the floor.
Houston threw everything they had at him defensively and went right at him on the other end of the floor. And he crumbled.

Jimmy does have a point. You have to be honest with your teammates. He knows he pisses people off.
He wants them to come back at him, directly. Not be super passive aggressive about it as Wigs and KAT have been.

He also needs to realize that everyone isnt wired like him, and what he says to his teammates and how he says it is important.
Straight trash talking isnt going to help. Constructive criticism might if its done in the right way.
Yes Jimmy is an alpha, but being a little more self aware could really help with chemistry and turn him from a great player into a great player AND a great leader.

KAT specifically needs to realize that Jimmy is his best chance to win in the forseeable future.
No matter what we get back, those players arent going to have near the same impact as Jimmy.
The defense is utterly atrocious without him. None of the trade scenarios I've seen have us getting back the elite 2nd ballhandler/playemaker we would be losing by trading Jimmy away.
