Sure, he can be angry that Wiggins and Towns signed deals, but realistically, if he wanted a renegotiation this year, he needed to say so before last year’s free agency, before MIN used it’s cap space to sign Teague, Taj and Crawford. If he wants to get paid at MIN, or most likely anywhere, he’ll have to wait until this summer.
I've been trying to think of if the renegotiation is the problem, how it got to this? There has to be some sort of reasoning why we're at this point.
Here, let me lay some big blame on the FO and possibly some on Taylor if this is the problem(I'm still not sure this is the underlying problem). I could understand that Butler sees the contract as respect and him being in the long term plans where as of now he doesn't know. I also believe how Chicago negotiated with him and tried to screw him does come into play with not trusting FOs(see the end for some of that info if you don't know).
If we assume this is true(he wanted to renegotiate this year), did he assume this would happen when he was being traded for? At the time of the trade there was the ability to renegotiate with Butler the next summer. The FO (Thibs and Layden) may have been aware of this situation at the time and who knows what was or wasn't said. The FO then went out and signed Gibson for 2 years, Teague for 2 + 1 eating up 33 million a year, then Taylor maxed out Wiggins a year before he had to, Wiggins' hold number(sign him after Butler) would have made the ability to create enough space much easier for Butler's renegotiating this summer.
So if there are reasons leading up to present time, I'm not sure they can be fixed right now, although drastic moves with the roster now "could" be done but that would hurt the team greatly.
My biggest question on if the renegotiation was that important to Butler, why is it that important? Thibodeau took care of him before so I would expect he'd take care of him again which leads me to my conclusion of the owner has the last say and how much can Butler trust the owner especially if Thibs position isn't exactly stable? It's a multimillion dollar question.

What I was told is — and I don’t know who it was in the front office; I don’t have a name — but that he was told, “Well, if you don’t take this, we’re going to play Tony Snell your minutes. We’re going to play Tony Snell over you, and then good luck trying to get this kind of money when your number sare down. And that, if it’s true — and it’s what I was told, and I believe it, but it’s the same thing of any gossipy industry that you’re in — then it doesn’t make sense that Jimmy Butler can’t stand the front office and loves Thibs, because Thibs apparently went, “No, I’m not playing Tony Snell over Jimmy Butler. Are you freaking kidding me?
