Waiters three year deal is not a necessity, since the Heat could offer Olynyk. Be honest.

Riley’s incentive is that he wants Butler, and MIN is not going to trade him for that package.

He also has the incentive that other offers can come along as the season progresses and players get injured, and if Riley misses out on Butler because he was only willing to offer a nickel, and refused to offer a dime, the Heat face two years of mediocrity before their cap clears out.

You think other teams will start offering more the closer to the deadline? Seems unlikely, right now the heat offer is by far the best offer that has been mentioned

Well, obviously putting Waiters in the deal didn’t get it done.

If you’re fine with Riley doing that, I’m fine with Thibs saying it’s not enough.

Riley tried foisting Dion Waiters bad contract and not taking back Dieng. If the Heat have to wait two more years on their treadmill to nowhere, shouldn’t a little of this anger be not be at Riley for making this his final final offer?

Olynyk is not being offered. The Heat are not the team that has to deal a disgruntled player. That's honesty.

I agree, Riley wants Butler. He doesn't NEED him. Unless the market for Butler increases, which doesn't seem likely at this point, there is no incentive to up the bid. The more time goes by, the better that deal looks as Butler's value will continue to decrease as his deal comes closer to expiring and teams getting him wouldn't have as much time to implement him for the very short rental. If other teams enter the sweepstakes, the offer may be a sweetened a bit more, but it makes no sense to up your own bid when there is no one else in the running for him.

If the Heat miss out on Butler and Wade retires at the end of the year, I can see Riley hitting the reset button for a few years and build some assets and develop some players. It's not Butler or bust, they have other options and other players will come available as the year progresses.

Sorry, you said Waiters had to be in the deal to match salary, and that’s a lie. “MIA doesn’t want to” does not make your statement true.

That’s their choice. If they miss out, and want a season or two season of mediocrity to make up for their foolish moves of 2017, then that’s their choice too. Mediocrity does not seem like the Riley-Heat way, but whatever.

But I don’t want to hear Heat fans complaining that Thibs didn’t take this crappy deal, of Riley will only offer crap. Richardson + Waiters is, at best, neutral value ..$63 mil for three years of those two. The pick is late. Thibs is not going to be kicking himself if this deal disappears, and it’s far better to just wait and see what happens with the other 28 teams between now and February.

If this is Riley’s final offer .. give 10 cents on the dollar, and refuse to give 20 cents .. I don’t want Heat fans whining if another team gets him for 20 cents. Riley has had plenty of time to make a legitimate offer, if he chooses not to, then Heat fans should put some responsibility on his choice.

The Houston Rockets aren’t willing to give up PJ Tucker for Butler.. that should tell you how much trade value Butler really has.

The annoying part of this is the fact that Thibs sent him butlers medical info (usually this happens when a deal is all but done) and then says just joking I want more.

Quite an oversimplification. The reality is the Rockets aren't willing to give up both Gordon and Tucker when everyone else is offering peanuts. I don't blame them....

Looks like you are the one with comprehension issues. Waiters is being offered. You accept it or you don't, but the deal will require him right now to be consummated as that is the current offer. I am not saying "MIA doesn't want to", I am saying Waiters is on the table right now, period. It's not a lie, it is a statement of fact.

You think the offers would get better as February approaches? Nobody is going to give a decent offer for a two month rental, unless they are giving you another disgruntled player that is expiring too.

This is not Riley's final offer, there was no deadline to give offers. It is his current offer when no other teams are even interested.

This reminds me of the time Lebron forced Cavs management to overpay for JR Smith when there wasn't a single team interested in him at the price JR and Lebron wanted. You don't outbid yourself when there is no one else bidding, that is idiotic.

The offer will only increase if Riley feels he needs to outbid another team or he decides he really wants Butler and is confident Butler will resign after the season. You say Riley is only offering 10 cents on the dollar right now, but if there is nobody even currently bidding 15, you don't increase the offer. That is negotiating 101.

I’m going to give up on you, because you got caught lying, and are defending your dishonesty.

If I wanted to trade for Josh Richardson, I couldn’t honestly say, “well Gorgui Dieng is a necessity in the deal to salary match,” and defend that lie by saying, “well, it has to be Gorgui because that’s what I’m offering.”

Don’t blame others “comprehension” when you flat out say untrue things. Man up, Hoopzilla. “Necessity?” Shameful.
——
As for “the price will only go down,” that’s not necessarily true either. Teams that have playoff aspirations often trade for key pieces for the playoffs. Stars get traded at the deadline regularly, if it even lasts that long.

You obviously have issues with comprehension, so I will dumb it down so you can ask someone to explain it to you.

Butler makes $22 million a season. Richardson makes about $10 million. Waiters will make over $12 million this season. Add those salaries together and they make, oh wow, $22 million. Maybe you can take it to a tutor and they can help you grasp this incredibly simple concept of basic mathematics. Olynyk is not being offered right now, so Waiters is required to match the salaries, a necessity for the current trade to be consummated.

Richardson and the FRP are the pieces of the deal people care about, Waiters is there is match salaries, he is not a sweetener. Fifty cents on the dollar means you get half of the player's worth. Richardson and the FRP are about fifty cents on the dollar for Butler.

They are not going to match salaries with a player of worth because that would be paying more than fifty cents on the dollar.

Kind of my point. The timberwolves don’t have a better offer out there than what the heat are offering. It’s not a great offer but it’s better than what other teams are willing to give up for Butler( by quite a bit) and it seems unlikely that teams will give up more the closer we get to the deadline. And they aren’t better off letting Butler walk

Hes not walking any where now. They have until the trade deadline before worrying about losing for nothing. If you take a crap trade no one is ever going to offer a reasonable deal in the future. So yes id let him walk before making that mia trade - which would only waste cap space and make it harder to build a team around KAT

The Rockets situation is very different to the Heat. Houston wasn't a mediocre team. They probably see this as a rental opportunity since they already have two max superstars plus Capela. The Heat isn't going anywhere in a weak east. Pretty different scenarios.

With Dieng and Wiggins already in the roster give 13M to Waiters is a killer for 3 more seasons, and if Richardson doesn't leap, then we are going to be better by letting Butler walk.

He will, and I don’t see why the timberwolves need the cap space, it’s not like they’re signing anyone better than Richardson. He would be their second best player.

If Teague opts out the wolves could have down around 80M commited for next season with an expected cap space of 109, and the season next will jump to 118M. If we have luck in the lottery it could be a quick retool.

Also in reality it doesn't look like the Heat were even offering a draft pick. They were offering a protected draft pick which may never convey.

What you're missing here is it doesn't matter if there is even one more offer or not. If the Heat offer isn't enough the Wolves refuse it regardless of other offers. Also in reality it doesn't look like the Heat were even offering a draft pick. They were offering a protected draft pick which may never convey.

I am 100% aware of the situation. If no other offers come in, Riley is happy to sit back and wait until his offer is more attractive than nothing at all when he walks or he can opt to up the bid if he feels he wants to. If he walks, Riley can simply opt to try and sign him and give up no assets at all. Maybe the Wolves will want to pull the trigger if Waiters returns to form from injury sooner than later. Riley is in no rush, the ball is in the Wolves' court. I guess we'll see if an early season injury will bring another team into the mix. If not, I don't see the offer getting any better.

It's a bluffing game right now. The Heat may be bluffing as if the Wolves will have to take on the crap that is Waiters to get Richardson and a POSSIBLE pick. It annoys the hell out of me people acting like the Heat are offering a pick. They are offering a protected pick that could easily never be given. The Wolves may be bluffing that they won't take on the crap that is Waiters eventually. I personally think that if Olynyk instead of Waiters gets it done The Heat are being penny wise and dollar foolish. I personally think the Wolves are quite wise to turn down the deal including the crap that is Waiters. Also the longer that Riley waits to make a legit IMO offer that has a snowballs chance in hell of being accepted he will not have the services of Butler until he does.

You know, to sign a player, cap space is an actual necessity.

Are you aware of that situation?

Hoopzilla it is honestly impossible for the Heat to sign Jimmy without giving up assets. Unless he is willing to sign for the MLE or something like that. You will have to give up assets to get cap space. It probably costs you more assets to sign Jimmy FA than to trade for him.

I obviously meant they wouldn't have to give up any assets of worth, they would have to clear some roster spots. I did not think I had to state this about teams in the offseason, teams revamp/retool, this is commonplace. If Riley can find a way to put a prime Lebron, Wade and Bosh in the same roster, I am sure he can find a way to fit Butler in. IF Butler even wanted to go there if he were a free agent of course.
