Well, it's fair to say Gio looks overmatched no? I mean, it felt very lucky to get out of that inning with 1 run against. Now, this being said, if I'm CC, I've gotta hope he can give us 4 innings. But, man, he isn't finding the plate. And, when he is, it's a bit meatball city.

I feel like we might've set up some unfair expectations from that series against Colorado though. We're not going to keep them off the board.

Like to get another inning out of him but we're playing with fire
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'd try to get one more inning but have somebody up and ready to go.

I think the plan was to have his maximum to be 4 innings, probably 3. Then bring in a hard-throwing righty like Woodruff because you forced Roberts to play all of his righties.

We may lose this thing just being outmatched at the starting pitcher spot, but we're bullpenning this thing unless the game gets out of hand one way or another.

At least the hitters don't look overmatched. We will score, it will be about holding the Dodgers

Man, I don't think we look terrible, but Kershaw is going to throw some nasty stuff with guys on base. I expect another huge RISP complaint game because Kershaw may be impossible to hit when he digs in.

Yeah, this has kinda been their plan all along. You basically get a DH if you want one and you can mess with their platoons if you go 3-2-2-1-1 or something in your pitching.

That said, Kershaw throwing a gem trumps everything.

Bringing in Wood was the right move imo

That was a quick hook. Would have liked to get another couple innings out of Gio.

I'm hoping at this point that Wood can get us through the sixth with a lead.

I understand concerns about the bullpen later in the series, but they can bullpen basically every game. They've now forced some mismatches with the Dodgers righty lineup out there. This is their plan. Don't need 100+ pitches out of a starter anymore, especially in the playoffs (I know you know this, but no need to force Gio out there).

Everyone is very well rested. If the top of your bullpen is "tired" by game 5, it's because you've had a lead in a lot of games...which is not a bad thing.

This is going to be interesting. Hope Woodruff stays in. I don't want to blow through our pen that fast.

There's a big difference between asking your starting pitchers to get through 4 and asking your starting pitchers to throw 100+.

For every guy we're forced to use for two or three, that's another guy who is unlikely to be available the following day. The truth is, we're going to need to get something out of our starters other than a couple innings.

If we're losing by more than a run in any game, you bring in Guerra to throw 4-5 garbage innings.

If your pen is tired by game 5 (Hader pitched 2-3 times, etc.) that means you are probably up 3-1 in the series or you've at least been very close in every game.

Only 2 weeks left max in the season...they can probably throw Hader and co. out there a lot.

Woodruff will be unavailable probably. Peralta is probably the middle innings righty tomorrow after Miley forces the Dodgers into putting their righties in the lineup.

Beyond that, they have a vast bullpen and can play it by ear. If we get down 4-0, Guerra will throw garbage innings and save everyone for tomorrow.

They've set themselves up to pull out all the stops in this series. No need to save the bullpen.
