Did Orlando have any interest in Schroeder before Atlanta traded him?

No. I admit he looks decent in his start with OKC so far, but there were never any rumors of ORL being interested in Schroeder while ATL was trying to unload him. There have never been any rumors of ORL being into Rozier either. The only PG they were showing interest in was Trey Young.

A lot can happen in one year... In my opinion it makes the discussion not relevant at the moment.

Schröder is set to make 15.5M a year over the next 3-years, and that is far outside the salary lines Magic brass were ever rumored to dish out this year.

I don't believe the Rozier extension talk is anything more than the standard offer you give to your good pending free agents.

Actually, I think you're 100% right about that.

Thanks for bringing me away from the ledge.

The Celtics and point guard Terry Rozier will not come to an agreement on a contract extension prior to Monday’s deadline, two league sources told the Globe.

According to one source, Rozier is determined to become a starting point guard in the NBA, and next summer will seek the minutes and money of a starter, perhaps in the $20 million-per-season range.

“There’s not going to be any extension,” the source said. “It’s hard to envision a deal that would make sense for both sides.”

What difference is Rozier going to make? The Magic should be trying to rebuild (not try desperately to be mediocre), not sure how Rozier is going to serve that purpose.

IF... and this is a massive, massive IF...

But if you get the Terry Rozier from the 2018 playoffs, he’s definitely worth a massive starter’s contract and starter’s minutes.

He had a 2.2 win shares in 19 playoff games. Project that over an entire season and he’d be a 9.5 WS guy.

He also had a BPM of 4.5. Both of those numbers would have ranked 16th and 19th **in the entire NBA** during the regular season.

Now there are huge risks involved. We’ve seen several players - Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley immediately come to mind - end up being FAR less effective the moment they get out of Brad Stevens’ system. Stevens has a great system and really seems to draw the most out of everyone who plays under him.

Would Rozier suffer that same regression fate? Potentially. One thing he has going for him that those other three did not is the fact he’s a good bit younger than they were and hasn’t had many injuries compared to those other players.

The other thing is... do the Magic really want to risk getting burned again by another “this guy was AWESOME in the playoffs for 6 weeks, but not nearly as good at any other point in his career” contract mistake?

The good news? We’ll have another season and potentially another playoff run’s worth of games to determine if Rozier is worth signing this offseason.

Definitely something I’m going to monitor very closely. Other than Kemba who sounds like he definitely wants to reup in Charlotte, Rozier is really one of the only starting caliber PGs on next year’s free agency market.

To be fair, the Magic didn’t have cap space to sign anyone outright at that price this past offseason.

They will have cap space this summer with Vucevic, Ross, Martin, Grant and Simmons all expiring.

That’s over 30M coming off the books.

With Augustin and Mozgov the subsequent year as well (another 20M+++) !

Kemba or Rozier is exactly what this team needs. I don't think we get a choice in the matter, so I'd take either one as soon as I could.

Rozier just said he does not want to play behind kyrie. I get it, but he's the better player.....the plot thickens

One thing to watch out for Rozier is his play on the road, he was really good in Boston in playoffs but not as good on the road.

He looked good today.
