Offensive Ineptitude
I don't know what more to say about the Dodgers' postseason offense, or lack thereof. It's one thing to be shut down by the likes of Verlander or Bumgarner, but we're finding ways to make any starting pitcher we face in the NLCS and World Series look like an ace. Chacin throws 70% sliders and we still couldn't get much offense going. This team can't even score on the Brewers' starting pitching despite being known for their bullpen. We scored late in both of the previous games and, in fact, have yet to plate a run in this contest despite heading to the 8th inning.
I really don't understand why this franchise can't make the adjustments for the postseason regardless of what roster it puts out there. The all-or-nothing approach worked fine in the regular season, but when runs are at a premium in the postseason, we can't afford to sit back and wait for home runs to present themselves. It's as though the concept of situational hitting is totally foreign to this ballclub.
Turner is a regular season stud and even put up a high all-time on-base percentage in the postseason but he's come up empty on most of the clutch situations presented to him. Bellinger went from rookie phenom in the regular season to having curveballs becoming his kryptonite. He's 1-17 in this postseason for a .059 batting average. Grandal has been a bust overall at the plate and behind it. Seager injured himself due to stubbornly running himself into the ground physically but he too is only batting .214 in the postseason.
Manny Machado is leading the postseason with 9 RBI while hitting 3 HR and it's still not enough, because he can't do it by himself. This team's pathetic performance in the playoffs go beyond Kershaw's inconsistencies.

Look how important a single and a double can be, especially with no outs.
Bellinger lowers his pathetic batting average even further with a weak pop up off the 1st pitch.

Grandal strikes out on 3 pitches. Didn't even lay wood on any of them.

I can't even get mad at Dozier for striking out looking with the bases loaded but Bellinger and Grandal's pathetic plate approaches killed another rally in the 9th inning. Dozier sat for most of this postseason while Bellinger and Grandal have been nothing but postseason chokes.

Re: 2018 Postseason Thread
As much as I wanna give **** to our bats, the Brewers have really been stingy this postseason. They only surrendered 2 ER in the NLDS to the Rockies and those were....you guessed it....9th inning runs surrendered by Jim Jeffress is Game one. Not only are they being stingy, the only time they're seriously being threatened is when Jeffress takes the mound.
Have they found a formula? Something in their scouting that has revealed a flaw in our approach? Something in the Rockies approach? That's keeping LeMahieu and Arenado down for 3 games in two hitter's parks. I dunno. It seems easy to say we're choking when Miley downed 15 straight batters and Chacin shut us down for 6 innings. Those guys are nobodies. It's probably some mixture of both tbh.

All I can say is these Dodgers have taken on the fabric of who we have been since we've been a franchise: Some what lovable losers who are hoping to get over the hump. A team with a rich history of being the underdog and overcoming with the pitching and defense little engine that could teams. I've been insistent that we should reject this notion and we should use our money and power to give the fans a dominate team and franchise that they can be proud of.
I dunno when we'll get to the WS but we just feel like the team that lost a million times to the Yankees in the WS and are looking for our 1955. I don't want that garbage. I don't want a one year Braves WS amidst 14 or 15 Division titles. This team and these fans deserve more. We deserve more than this choking. We deserve more than 3 October games of basically being dominated by Milwaukee pitching and only being in this series because of the 7th and 8th innings of Game 2.

I have to be consistent. I've held Kershaw to the fire for coming up small in the postseason. Even though I like Yas, this is necessary.
One of my biggest reasons for being pissed at Kershaw....wanting Baez traded etc. etc. is that I want the choking **** OUT of the locker room. I want 25 guys in there who believe in each other and think each other can get the job done. I don't want 22 people thinking that one is gonna choke and "ahhhh, here this guy goes again"....sucking their teeth when one guy makes a mistake that EVERYBODY knows they're going to make.
The Brewers are locked in...well coached...a machine...if you beat them, fine. But you're not seeing passed balls. Errors...You're not seeing ineptitude at the plate. You're seeing the opposite with Arcia hitting HRs in back to back games.
This is the next step this franchise has to take....analytics with a focus on OCTOBER mindset...not analytics + Granderson is a wily vet....NOT just Chase Utley is a good locker room presence. We need guys who can perform and execute in October.
On the 30th anniversary of Gibby's HR, I can only think of him being pissed in Spring Training at his teammates putting some kind of tar like substance in his hat and how they were not at his level of seriousness and preparation....how that kind of player/ mindset coming into this locker room would be great.

I cannot appreciate **** saying the stadium had no energy. The fans had no energy.
Play the damn game.
That’s what home crowds sound like when road teams put up 9 zeroes on you.
That sold out crowd stuck with you for 9 innings, waiting for any moment to burst and you gave them no opportunity.
Foh at blaming fans. That’s Chris Paul/ DeAndre Jordan Clipper ****. Hope they realize our season is on the line tonight.

Something I've Always Suspected...
It's been a long held criticism of him and he's never gotten better at it. Seems like it's one of those, "take me as I am with all my flaws" type of things.

We've seen what that approach does in other sports... It's the mindset of mediocrity.
I've said before there's something about this season/team that keeps me from getting excited... I think it's that we're supposed to be better than this.
But we've got the same crap going on with over-Managing this season as we did last season... While most great managers seem to lock in and ride the lineups that worked in the regular season, when they get to the post season... Dave seems to feel like he's got to use every player, every series... He's either not that smart, or out-smarting himself, depending on how you look at it...
Now's not the time to 'shake things up'...
I feel bad for YG... It was a bad game, it happens... But he should have never been there in the first place. Just like Puig should never be a PH for Kemp...
Hell, If you're going to punish guys, why not punish Machado, for crap slides and lackluster base-running... Or sporadic batting...
My complaint since last season is that this team never seems to develop an identity... Great teams define themselves and become a thing... I feel like every time we start to do that, Dave **** with something... So right now we're watching "Dave's Team" instead of a Dodger's team that's defined itself and developed an identity of its own...
Nobody wants to watch "Dave's Team" but other teams love playing it.

I agree. This platoon/matchup stuff on a night in/night out basis tends to demonstrate that you just aren’t that good. You don’t platoon Mike Trout, Freddie Freeman, Buster Posey, Harper, etc. etc. You’re supposed to have dominant relievers and specialists for one out situations or special situations when lefties are stacked, not always playing lefty-righty whenever the starter comes out. These things are huge tells of where your roster is.
Earlier this offseason, I advocated for Alex Verdugo to get LF with the idea that he was our best LF and who wants a platoon with Kemp and Toles. Kemp played well most of the year but these platoons are regular season fixes that work for 162. Come the postseason, I just want a set lineup and guys that will come through no matter what hand bat they are.
We looked incredibly stupid Game 1 throwing a righty lineup for Gio only for Counsell to pull the rug from under us and go bullpen the most of the way. He played Dave, the man, and won. Any time you have one of the most clutch hitters of our generation (Freese) subbed out before the late innings, just because you threw Gio for 2 innings, you won the mental/head game with the other manager.

Def feel bad for YG. Hard worker. Good catcher. Good family person. Good professional. Put a lot of his San Diego baggage behind him IMO. He’s another guy I would draft 10 times out of 10.
He just isn’t coming through in October. Isn’t even being competitive at the dish. He’s not on the island that’s even next to the island of squaring the ball up. He could score a run with a pop fly in these bases loadsd scenarios but how can you do that if you’re not putting the ball in play?

Love him for clearing that up. The comment was taken out of context as well. He did blame the team for not getting the crowd into it.

Dave blows David Freese just because Gio is out to bat.
His night is done in the bottom of the second.
He is not a smart manager and he has not played this platoon smart.
Hopefully muncy comes through.

A complete idiot blowing David Freese this early in the game.
Max Muncy, naturally, strikes out looking....no damage done...no Freese for late inning or middle inning clutch moments.
Stupid lefty-righty garbage.
Dave is an idiot.

I get that people are going to be pissed at Manny for the dick-move at 1st, but why the hell did the pitcher just camp out there after getting the out? He must have stood there a couple seconds after catching the ball waiting for Manny to get there... Stupid on both sides.
