Game Thread 10/17: Pacers vs. Grizzlies

Post#1 » by boomershadow » Tue Oct 16, 2018 7:54 pm

Last season, these two teams faced off twice, with the Pacers winning both. However, two things should be noted. The first is that the combined margin of victory across both games was only seven points – they were both battles from start to finish. The second is that Mike Conely Jr. didn’t play in either game, and he will be playing on Wednesday. This Grizzlies team is better.

Memphis had no trouble with Victor Oladipo last season, holding him to just 13/32 shooting in the two matchups. Schematically, the way they threw defenders at Vic on the strong side was hard for him to handle.

Thankfully, that same scheme opened things up for other Pacers’. Darren Collison melted Memphis in their first game last year for 30 points and had 16 in the second meeting. Conley being back should slow DC down, but not entirely.

I thought the game is on the 17th, not the 16th.

You could always blame it on daylight savings time confusing you.

blame it on the story in the Star that said tipoff is tonight.

really tempting to buy tickets for this game as I'm back in town for the week. The resale prices really aren't that bad, especially club level.

Got the chili in the crockpot and ready to go. Don't like having the Grizzlies early. Think they are tougher now than later in the year because Conley and Gasol are healthy and have fresh legs. Should be a good test right out of the gate! After tonight the season is 1.2% over. Enjoy!

A number of things can be taken from tonight's game. The second unit is more effective, and the rebounding is better, and on and on. Here is one thing that stood out to me - Sabonis is getting better at avoiding some of the rinky-dink fouls he accumulated last year. Sounds small. In particular after just one game. But as the season rolls on it could be very important.

leaving I said it was nice to see 2nd unit take over the game rather than losing a lead.

Evans plays under the rim. he played some 3 but perhaps Leaf's injury forced some small ball.

Dougie is much more athletic than I realized.

Great start to the season. Really impressive performance. The new guys certainly didn't disappoint. Things get a heck of a lot tougher on Friday.

Sorry I didn't post earlier, but I loved this game. We dominated from tip-off and it got so bad I started feeling sorry for them.

This new bench has the chance to be top 5 and I feel another great year is on it's way.

Also, Baby Sabonis had a monster game and seems to have gotten stronger and better.

Good times.
