You guys are gonna be fine...
Also, we really want that pick next summer.
NOTE: Zion Williamson playing next to DJ and Luka would be so much fun to watch.

This next draft seems to be very weak...

I think it’s too heavy. Top 5-6 look good and then a drop off. Which is good for us. Either we get one of them or we let ATL take something 7-10

Yup. A top 5 protection is great for this upcoming draft. For me I have a strong top 4 then a steep drop off after that.

Just give up on a top 5 pick and take a 3andD starter kit in the second round.

I don't think we have any picks in 2019 outside of top 5. I think Philly has our 2nd rounder from the Noel trade.

Well...Cuban can still invest some money in a second round pick.

Maybe we could flip Wes for a first round pick by January?
A lot of teams needing cap relief and none greater than Portland who has a new management team coming in after Paul Allen's passing. And none of those guys appreciate the luxury tax bill they are getting and are in the red.

I don't think the point is that we're likely to end up in the Top 5 based on where we stand now/our roster, but I think it's fair to say that it's a good safety net in the worse-case scenario...considering the talent.
We are not giving up cap space for a 2nd round pick. Maybe a 1st, but I wouldn't unless is was in the 10-15 range. Even then, not sure it's worth it.

If this trend keeps up, a top 5 pick becomes an option.

Which would actually suck IMO, because if we are bad enough to keep our pick, then no decent FA is going to want to sign here. And we will end up conveying the pick in a better draft.

Don’t disagree. But, if we are able to get #4 in 2019 or, let’s say, #12 in 2020, which is more valuable?
That probably assumes our youngsters develop and we can sign some FA but I’d take the top 5 pick.

Unless we can get Reddish or Barrett, I would rather convey the pick. And like I said, if we end up picking that high, then we will not be an attractive landing spot for FA's. We would most likely need to look at money whipping a young RFA away from someone, or doing a short term overpay for a solid vet like Phi did with Reddick.
So, yeah another top pick would be nice, but it means this season will have been kind of wasted. We need Luka and DSJ to learn how to compete for the playoffs, not ping pong balls, and we need to lure in a solid FA to help them out. The outlook on both fronts looks worse with each game so far.

Considering Cuban was the one who thought of prying away Chandler Parsons from Houston with that big contract, he also felt like Harrison Barnes was worth all that money, I wouldn't be surprised if we went down that route.

The idea that their ability to learn winning basketball will be destroyed by one or two years of losing basketball doesn't make sense, unless you think they aren't the hyper competitive types with a strong desire to win, which pretty much every assessment of both players have declared. Having 3 players 21 and under with star level talent is exactly what you want to build a long term winning basketball team with. To me it's better for the teams future than getting some middling FA with our cap money (unless you believe the team has the opportunity to acquire a genuine difference maker if FA, which the team has consistently failed to do even when they were a playoff team). Cuban has preached the draft doesn't matter and to build through FA since 2011, and it's resulted in the teams decline ever since. Any FA pickups are far more likely to be good role players, than the 3rd piece we need to really become any type of contenders in the west.

Right. He’s the perfect PF to put next to Luka as SF. RJ Barrett also looks amazing and Reddish might be a better Wing next to Luka.
Per The Sparest point, it’s looking like those 3, play maybe Little, will be the ones to get. And then a significant drop off from there.
