In general i think that Payton is more or less, same player he was with Magic, but with better team around him he won't be as exposed as he was here. I still don't think he is starter in NBA.

Ah. I can't really disagree but we will phrase things differently because of course i thought he was fine as a starter. You would say he won't be as exposed, and i would say he's being set up for success by playing to his strengths.

Rockets defense was also pretty ugly, especially with Melo.

Yeah they are going to miss Trevor and Luc, but they are probably counting on outscoring people.

They got stoped last night, -17 at rebounds, -16 in assists.
Took 48 threes, only made 16.

In general whole game is probably just outliner. Randle 25 points in 24 min is not sustainable, Mirotić shooting like Curry probably won't stick and Moore won't look like T mac on most of nights .

I'll shift more focus to Hornets , as Magic face them on Friday ( game i probably won't be able to watch :/ )
They missed two game winning shots vs Bucks.
All their starters but Kemba were trash. Zeller ,as C had 5 points 3 rebounds in 21 min.
But Monk, Parker and MKG gave them nice boost off bench. It's also Clifford vs old team, as interesting matchup.

Yeah, I’m not sure many teams could have beat New Orleans last night. They were in a shooting rhythm and everyone felt good. Outlier, especially as teams scheme their defense around what they are doing.

Hornets will be interesting. All boils down to limiting Kemba which we’ve never been able to do. If anyone can figure it out it’s certainly our coach.

For me I’m just looking for that consistent energy that we saw for 4 quarters last night. Once we get past 20 games we’ll have a good idea on our team and players. I do think we could fight for a playoff seed if our bench can consistently deliver.

What a great game last night.

It’s way too early to give pat on the backs about players like Young being good or bad. It’s game 1. Doncic looked pedestrian out there in many ways. Shot poorly and looked out of shape. Will he get better? Yes. Will Young? I think he could. It’s just too early to say with these guys.

From the eye test, I really like what Ayton and Bamba are bringing to the table. We very well may have stolen Bamba at 6. In a redraft, he may end up as the #2 or 3 pick.

there's a weird sort of emptiness behind fultz's facial expression. like there's something not plugged in all the way. seen the same look from a lot of these new rappers.

Lakers looked exactly how anyone who knows anything about basketball thought they'd look. LeBron is still great. Rondo played well. They looked excellent on offense at times. Plenty of dunks and layups. Didn't take a lot of midrange shots.

That said...

It's EXTREMELY difficult to be good in the NBA if you don't make threes. If you're a bad shooting team, which it appears the Lakers are going to be, you have to be really good at everything else and even then you’re still facing an uphill struggle against good shooting teams. They got outscored 39-21 from the 3PT line.

The Lakers not only lack shooting, but compounding that problem is that they also lack rebounding.

Portland had 14 offensive rebounds and 21 second chance points. That lack of defensive rebounding is just death for a team that wants to play uptempo like LA wants to do.

He's got finishers around him that he didn't have here, his game is better when he has guys that can do that. And he got triple doubles here too, question is can he be consistent?

The Blazers are my sister team. It's like opposite Orlando. They have two of the best scorers/shooters in the league and then they roll out Nik Stauskas with them because why not?

Yes, that is the question. AD said in an interview that Elf should be able to average a triple double, and then Gentry said something similar about not being surprised because that's the type of play they could see from him when they did their presentation to him to come to the pels. Lol, no pressure right? I think they may not quite expect trip dubs but do think he can consistently bring it. He has freedom to play how he wants, even to override coach calls there which he said he has never had, and it's just another atmosphere. It's up to him.

Watching the Bucks lay it on the pacers right now. Bud uses Yiannis at the 4 and he likes the big C in Lopez under the rim.

I bet when Hezonja signed with the Knicks he didn't expect he'd get less minutes than he was getting in Orlando...

Especially in a game where Knox didn't even play. Its still early, but I'm still not convinced Mario is a legitimate rotational NBA player in this league. I still lean towards the side of him returning to Europe in a couple of seasons.

Still recovering from that knee surgery but the airball threes are concerning. Its quite amazing to see how bad him and fultz have been to start the season.

I legit feel bad for Fultz though. Never been a fan of Lonzo though.

Lonzo will develop in time he will be good. Fultz just looks like he doesnt even belong in the NBA. Hes not injured. Its all mental at this point and its sad because he has alot of talent. His trade value is at an all time low now. NO team is going to gamble for a guy with a broken mind.
