Can Brandon Ingram really take the next step?

Post#1 » by KavanK » Thu Oct 18, 2018 9:55 pm

Hey guys, a lot has been made about if brandon makes the next step this season. So far in the pre-season he looks pretty good. Check this video out and let me know what you think!

Yes play better D and shoot the three.

I think he genuinely has to or he becomes trade fodder, i think all the youngsters do really or else they're at risk of being traded.

His defense is already fantastic. He’s a much better defender this year already compared to last. If he can knock threes down, it’s over.
NBA titles since the merger: LAL 11, CHI 6, SAS 5, BOS 5, GSW 4.

Really curious on how Ingram adjusts when he gets back. 2 games in and only 1 assist. He has a arguably the biggest adjustment to make out of anyone compared to last year. It looked like he really took a big stride once the ball was put in his hands a lot more. He is now at best the 3rd ball handler on the team. He is getting put into more of a catch and shoot situation which isnt his strength. Just curious if he can flourish in this role.

Yeah, in the Pelicans he will have more than 25 shots per game.

extremely overrated, especially by the guys that say he will be as good as prime kawhi, or close to KD offensively... he won't ever come anywhere near that. If you temper expectations, he can still be very good/solid player in this league

The only thing missing from Ingram's game right now is a solid outside jumper... And that's getting closer from what we've seen.
He gets an outside shot and the whole floor opens up for him... He'll be a nightmare.

Ingram possesses a rare blend of size and athleticism that is rare in the NBA. KD is probably the only one who compares, but Ingram is probably a better athlete than KD as well.

He needs to improve his shooting to get to KD level, but I’ve seen nothing to make me think that he’s not going to get there, especially now that he has a guy like LeBron playing along side of him.

Eh, he’s really not that good at attacking off the dribble, posting anyone up, and isn’t really above average at creating for others. He’s really only good at putting his head down and grinding his way to the mid range and using his length to get his shot off.

He’s got a long way to go in a lot of areas aside from getting a reliable jumper.

I think he's gonna end up being a trade chip. He's good, but he's not a superstar.

i'm not a fan so i think he can't take the next step unless that step is putting on 20 lbs of muscle minimum.

i just do not like his body type - it's boney, gangly, and soft with no muscle tissue. it's not even wiry. he's got an underdeveloped teenager's musculature. he bounces off doris burke like a ping pong ball. he has no strength to go up in a crowd. and so he plays small. has anyone seen him rise above a crowd . no. he's always feet planted and smothered by opponents

Why cant you give him more time? Lol he had two bad games and he still scored double digits
I dont like how luke doesnt use him more without lebron, he should be with the bench more times

In 2 games with Bron he's shown to be a ball stopper who isn't great at moving without the ball. He's never going to be a post player and his biggest value add is that he can handle the ball..... which is somewhat useless when you have Ball, Rondo and Bron who will have the ball most of the time to initiate. Rondo and Ball don't have a lot of use off the ball as nether is a consistent shooting threat.

Kind of like Randle who had the ability to handle the ball.... when you get Bron to add to 2 PG's who don't have offensive games you lose the opportunity to use that differentiator and then it's back to position basketball. Ingram is a tweener in that respect. He's not a PF and he's not a SF. Not strong enough to play in the paint and not athletic enough to create his own shot in space most nights. I don't dislike the guy or his game..... just not seeing how it gets to the next level when his unique aspect of ball handling is somewhat negated.... at least in the starting lineup.

I'm not high on him.

People keep mentioning his "length" over and over and over again. OH and hes' young.

What does he do better than Kuzma?

That’s more legend than reality this year IMHO. He played Milsap great in the 4th quarter. He shouldn’t be playing Centers.

I’d say his defense is improved this year so far.

Ehh defense... I don't really see it. Hope he can prove me wrong in the coming weeks.
