I do want to add, I think our last summer of cap space anytime soon will be next summer before all those extensions kick in. I think we only project around $15m or so, but that is still more than a majority of the league. While I don't see any top FAs singing here next summer (LBJ, CP3, PG13), I do think there can be some excellent bargains in free agency as there will not be much cap space out there, and there will be some nice salary dumps happening as there will be plenty of tax teams.

If we never traded for Crabbe andended up keeping Harris and/or Stuaskas, we would be in a much better position by having 2 players to replace Crabbe for much less money and have more options in free agency.

The Crabbe trade is really biting us in the ***. Atkinson is gonna have to work his magic to make him worth that 12 mill we paid.

But the thing you said about our cap space isn’t necessarily true. We probably won’t have 15 mil in space this offseason since we’ll likely be bringing back at least Stauskas, maybe Okafor as well. I also see us making another move that eats into our space this summer.

Also the 2019 offseason is the only year where we’ll definitely be over the cap. Since it doesn’t look like we’ll be signing any large long term deals this summer, we’ll be looking at about 40 mill in space in 2020 based on quick maths. That’s with DLos max, Rondae and Dinwiddie each getting about 15 mill, various rookie level deals sprinkled around and LeVerts cap hold. That means we would be able to sign a max guy who can hopefully be the star that puts this team over the top.

Obviously this is contingent on Marks not signing anyone to a big deal past 2020 outside of those 3 young guys. But it’s not unheard of for teams to maintain cap space for a specific offseason. I assume that’s what Marks is doing for 2020.

But it might be a little tight, especially if the cap doesn’t rise as much as predicted. That’s why I think we trade Dinwiddie before we have to pay him.

Stauskas is off to a really great, most certainly unsustainable start. It's sad that we haven't really taken advantage of it, results wise.

agreed. that's my main hang up over the Crabbe deal. especially now with Joe Harris having been pretty damn good this season and Stauskas showing flashes of why he was drafted at the spot he was selected at.

eh, we'll see what happens. As someone else stated, Crabbe deserves to get a good year in under Kenny's watch before we panic about the cap space. If by year 2 we still see wildly inconsistent production and no addition to his game then I'll be alarmed. I do see Crabbe's effort to do more than just stand around and shoot threes especially in the last two games, so there's hope he can evolve.

I guess I'm wondering what we expect or even need other than his 3 point shooting. We have guys that can create in Dinwiddie, LeVert and RHJ. We will have two more with Russell and Lin back. We have 3 point shooting with DMC, Harris, Nik, Din, D.Lo.

Just trying to think of what he could do to earn that contract and fit the system other than...40%+ on high volume and quality D. His D has improved but is still not good and it looks like he's better at low volume 3s. His dribbling is amateur and passing is as well. Who learns to dribble and pass over age 25 as a guard?

Unless he turns into a version of Korver, Reddick, Klay or some elite shooter with some semblance of an all around game he's not worth it. It also appears he's mentally weak and lost confidence and ovwrthinks.

I love the idea of always having a good 3pt shooter on the court.

Crabbe, Harris, and Sauce are good with potential to be great shooters.

What do you guys think about what happens to Sauce? He's shown some flashes but simply hasn't gotten enough playing time to make an impression.

I don't think he's worth the $5m QO regardless of whether we re-sign Harris. We can't afford to pay a 5th string G that much.

I think they will keep him if they lose Harris, otherwise, they'll let him walk.

Ehh, he's been ok. I wish him the best after this season though. I don't think we're going to hang onto him. He was probably Harris insurance (as many viewed him) and we ended up keeping Harris. Joe will be back at a reasonable deal and and just offers so much more. Unless Nik comes back at a super friendly deal and wants to stay with the organization (and who knows, maybe likes being with his pal Caris) I think he's gone.

won't turn it into another "questionable debate on Kenny n his staff", but has to be a bit eye opening that Staukas did that for Portland but couldn't sniff it here...

but good for him.

It's not eye opening to anyone who doesn't have an agenda against Kenny Atkinson.

Nik Stauskas' first game as a Net he scored 22 points versus the Raptors on 70% shooting from 3.

Lol I was watching the game and got flashbacks. Looked like the same exact game. His mannerisms and everything were the same. He did hit some extra deep 3s though.

i like stauskus but harris and crabbe are both better... would i take staukus at 5-6 million over crabbe at 18-19? of course but that wasnt possible as crabbe was locked in.

we really dont have room for another 1 way SG/unathletic SG

not that i'm implying we made a big botch here with Nic, just curious why his "floor spacing" ability(only?) wasn't used here with us...

There were a lot of shooters ahead of him. He did not maintain his 70 % shooting - . He had to play with Okafor rotations which did horribly. ... Sometimes circumstances make it hard for a player to shine. I always liked him though and wished Nets could have kept him too.

He's a shooter, every now and then shooters drop 25 when they get hot. He has 2 stars to that make the game easier for him.
