sam presti's appeal to 'fast and explosive' is going to be old and stale by the all star break. especially when westbrook is out and / or not 100%.
it's crazy that not only is our offense designed in such a rudimentary way, but our coach prefers to play guys with lower awareness and lower bbiq so long as they fit a physical profile. the grant v. patterson debate is going to be so annoying this year.

Bad: Starting the season on a 2 game road trip
Worse: Having to do that without your best player
Worst: Billy Donovan's "coaching"

Re: 10/19 | G2: Oklahoma City Thunder at LA Clippers - 9:30 CST
What the heck happened? We seemed to be in semi-control about midway through the 4th and we still ended up losing the 4th quarter 37-15. We were up 87-83 with about 8 minutes to go in the 4th. We got outscored by a non-playoff team, with no big time scorers, 23-5 over the last 8 minutes. We scored a whopping 5 points over the last 8 minutes of the 4th quarter. This team has serious issues. FIVE!!!! points over the last 8 minutes of the 4th quarter!!!
And a combined 9/42 from the field (21%) from George and Schroder. Paul George needs to pull his head out of his ***.

Fast and explosive looks good when you're getting stops and in transition, but you've gotta have some type of plan in the half court. What exactly is our goal on offense even?
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Dribble around, use a few ball screens, and shoot a well-contested or, at the very least, a semi-contested 15-18 footer.
Billy Donovan has to go. He's terrible.

even with the fast breaks and stops you need outlier orb% to offset league average eFG. sam has his priorities backwards, or at least, he's stating them backwards in response to the criticisms of the roster he built.

Cool, and Jonas jerebko gets a game winning tip in for Golden State. I'm done with the NBA for the year

Like 1 screen dribble handoff to George, chuck a 3 that rims off or screen at the elbow for Dennis, 15 foot jumper rim off. Over and over.

It is 100% Donovan
why do you think a coach like donovan was hired? did you see george's comments about preferring to play without a system in place? it is definitely not 100% donovan.

Not really to argue but he's had 2. And the other is in Washington with the same offense.

Westbrook and George aren't the first or only superstars to enjoy offensive freedom. You can design a system that leverages those gifts to make life easier on the rest of your team, see D'Antoni.
In Donovan's defense, it's difficult to design an offense when you have 4 good offensive players total.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Unscared money keeps betting the same way til they're broke.
Coaches with decorum but not enough tactical excellence. Not enough shooting. Too many projects. Too few & too slow corrections.

Hope that knee is good and rested.

our offense under brooks was a little more nuanced but that is probably mostly to do with superior talent than anything. any hope of an offense like this producing top 5 eFG like it did annually left when kd did.
i think brooks' main advantage over donovan as a coach was keeping the guys on the rails more often.

Agree there totally. Just saying they've never had a coach who seemed to actually try to run a real offense.
