Russell needs to stop holding the ball so much. catch the ball, give it up, get it back. Unless the coach specifically wants him to ISO I see no reason for him to stand at the top of the key staring at the defense while the shot clock ticks down. We know he can't get past anyone so he might as well allow LeVert and Dinwiddie to get the defense shifting so he can get open looks.

That BS righty lefty has no impact on scouting report whatsoever. Players will always tend to defend the right on instinctual situation all the time. What will effect him is if he can continue shooting of the dribble at this rate. This is where i'm somewhat a skeptic with him. Since his pick n roll dynamic will change. Where defenders will constantly hedge under so he can't really roll by putting the defender on his hips.

Russell is a frustrating player because of how up and down he can be in games. Watching him in the 4th it was like he was a totally different player from the dude who was out there stinking up the gym in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs. I was baffled and aggravated last night watching all of that unfold. But to hate him? No way. I like Russell a lot. I think his reputation is unwarranted and he seems like a decent kid. It's just that we don't have a lot of time or the cap room for the Nets to sit around waiting for the light bulb to go off. If we had more time I don't think I'd be as frustrated...it isn't his fault, the situation just isn't in our favor. 2 games in, I absolutely would not sign him to a number that even remotely comes close to his cap hold. He's got to show me some consistency.

The one difference between Deron and D'Angelo is that one player wants to actually be here and cares despite how flawed he is on the court. The other never wanted to be here, sulked non stop and didn't care about any of this. I would take Russell all day over Deron.

Its been strangely quiet about a guy averaging 27, 5, and 5 on 69.9 TS%. With a game winner already. Almost like these were regular games for him. Only 2 games in but if this was Russell, this board would be going crazy.

I think the biggest indicator of LeVert's change is the rate at which LeVert is getting to the line. If he can continue to do that, he will be a legit 20+ 5 and 5 player. If that happens, we are in business.

Let's see how he fares against Oladipo tonight.
