He will definitely be the leader of the Spurs locker room sooner than later. I hated losing him in a trade. He will become the best defensive big man by season’s end. Is he a 20 point guy? We will have to wait and see

This guy was my favourite raptor. He's going to surprise a lot of people. Pop is going to love him too.

If he can improve his 15-17ft jumper, he will be dangerous. He can move his feet really well and with an added jumper, he would be harder to guard in the screen and roll/pop.

His real potential as a player will come down to how much stronger can his frame get before he loses quickness and athleticism. Jump shot won't have anything to do with it. With his soft hands, quickness diving to the basket and ability to finish in a variety of ways off the run, it would be a waste to have him as a floor stretcher anyway.

He has to get stronger to simply bang in the paint at an adequate level for a starter. Thats why I never liked the Adams comparisons. He's on the opposite end of the center strength spectrum. However, Jakob is way more fluid and creative as a finisher. Other than being 7 footers who can run and jump, there's not much similarity there.

Yeah I'm not really convinced about the Adams comparison either even if Jakob gets stronger (balanced so as to not lose other strengths you mentioned). I don't agree, though, that his being a floor stretcher is a waste. Bigs facilitating from the top of the arc is an important and often utilized play for us so I expect Jakob to be incorporated into it in time as well. Jakob doesn't get talked about as much, but he's also an important part of the deal. Getting a lottery pick who has solid fundamentals and good upside, is coachable and fills a position of need is a great pick up, too.

A look into Jakob's process of getting ready for the season:

Spurs' Poeltl says he's been working with Duncan, Hammon
Talk about getting a head start at your new job.

What better way for Jakob Poeltl to start learning about the San Antonio Spurs system and culture than from Tim Duncan and Becky Hammon. In an interview with Austrian site Heute, Poeltl reveals he has been working with Duncan during 5-on-5 games and Hammon mostly since arriving in San Antonio.

"He (Duncan) plays in the 5-on-5's, of course he is not the fastest anymore, but he still has it. I benefit from him, he gives a lot of input, including new, really helpful stuff."

"I've worked a lot with Becky (Hammon) so far.

As far as intangibles, he is young (22 years old), has size to bring to the paint, and durable as he was the only Raptor to play all 82 regular-season games last season. Factor in the low-post teachings Duncan can pass on to him as well as other intangibles Hammon can teach, Jakob could prove very useful for the Spurs next season as part of their second unit.

He's quick and can defend a bit but not quite good enough to anchor a team's defense. He's filler - thrown in so Pop and Buford can sucker the SA fans into thinking they got a young prospect. Toronto wont miss him and he wont really be useful to the Spurs anytime soon based on how out of sorts he looked in the playoffs. Spurs woulda been better off bringing over Milutinov, he's got legit wingspan for a defensive anchor(unlike Poeltl) and looks to have better rebounding instincts. Only positive about Jakob is he won't mail it in every night like Pau.

He also has an issue with defensive rebounding leading me to believe his positioning is extremely poor. This is a sign that he's really raw and possibly has low bball IQ(he does look kinda derpy). Bad pickup if Pop is gonna have to waste his last two years babysitting someone that should have gotten his stuff together in college or Europe.

Just gonna quote myself here for posterity. Poodle's proven to be a bust - guy looks worse than Mahinmi so far. Nikola Milutinov's the same age as this guy and rotting in Europe when he could be contributing to the Spurs. He's a lot better than this scrub. It's still early but it looks more and more like the Spurs overrated front office got suckered into taking Toronto's garbage.

I still wish the Spurs got Anunoby or Siakam.

No way he's a scrub, but his ceiling is limited, that's why I did not like the trade and also Demar, because we changed a top 5 player for a borderline top 20 player too similar to Rudy Gay when we needed outside shooting.
When this account gets more "And1"s than posts written ...then my life will be complete. And maybe it will be the right time to hang it up. (Achieved on 2017-2018 season)...but still here.

LOL - Charles Barkley says he is the most underrated big man. Cody Zeller is the likeliest outcome IMHO. Nobody knows if Anunoby will be better than Jak and if they say that they have no clue. OG Anunoby has yet to ever show he can off on offence. Paskal Siakam's athleticism is off the charts so no way was he getting traded.

What is going on with Poetl? Why isn't he getting minutes? 13 minutes has been the most this season

The two Lakers games he didn't start because we wanted the Dante on James match up, which put LMA at the C.

In the three games Jakob has started, he simply did not played well enough. To be fair, he's only started in four games before he got to the Spurs, and so being thrust into a starting role while learning a new system on both ends and going up against west starting Cs is a big task. We need to be patient with him. I think he'll reward us for it.

Well, looks like regarding the Feedback Yak gets on Social Media! 8-)

Couldn't understand the people, that described Jakob as a Euro-Bust at the beginning anyways.
