The usual hilarity in this GQ interview, which is a good one.

just 5 games in, but im very happy with his progress on his to rate. hes up to 35 mpg this season compared to last years 30, but reduced his turnovers to 2 per game compared to 3.7 last season.

The General Board hasnt caught up to that yet but Embiid is averaging 28/12/4 on good efficiency playing with 3 awful shooters/non shooters in the starting lineup which statistically is what i was expecting from him this year.
He is still not as dominant in the paint as i wanted and settles too much for jumpers but this might be related to the spacing of this team.

I expect him to be arguably the best player in the league by next year if he remains healthy and continues in this trajectory and it wouldnt surprise me if he got there even earlier than that.

If Embiid plays at least 70 games he'll be in the MVP conversation. As long as the rest of the team is relatively healthy we'll get to 50 wins.

A lot of people simply dismiss him as fools gold because of his injury history. I agree with you that he is trending towards the best player in the league, and it isn’t that far away.

If his numbers stay at this level and the team wins over 50 games then he will get the respect that he deserves I think.

Just think, he had the one stinker of the game that is dragging down his averages. Outside of that one he has been incredible.

With him reducing drastically his turnovers so far, his only real weakness right now is scoring on tough matchups like Horford and Baynes. There is his subpar 3pt shooting too, but I want to see larger sample size to see what is his real percentage.
If he wants to be in MVP conversation, it cannot happen you can't score decently against certain players, you need to be that "nobody can guard him" type of player.

He is already a "nobody can guard him" type of player. That doesn't mean that he dominates everyone every time.

Neither Horford nor Baynes can guard him one on one over the long haul. The last 5-7 games against those guys were mostly after his injury last year in the playoffs while playing with a mask on his face, and the first game of the year this year.

If we played a 7 game series with Boston today Embiid would win those match ups easily, even though the Celtics would win the series.

He had the one down game this year, but has otherwise been playing at an mvp level.

i dont think you can really blame that on joel. hawks seemed to set their priority on stopping embiid and not winning the game. he was doubled almost every single time he touched the ball. he just had to pass it to the open guys. (he only had 9 fga, while playing 30 mins and no foul troubles)

You are right. I meant statistically it was an outlier.

He has basically dominated the season so far.

If he stays at this level and the Sixers are say 27-14 or so at the half way point of the year, he is going to be a strong MVP candidate. He will probably be the best defender of all of the other candidates too.

We need to build around Embiid, Simmons is a bad fit, trade Simmons for a shot creator, let's make things easier for our superstar.
If not, at least move Simmons to PF, he is NOT a PG. This offense is terrible, we need a shot creator at PG.

I would worry how long can Embiid sustain this kind of effort on both sides of the floor particularly since his game is very physical.
Might be a good idea to start resting him in back to backs.

It might also force certain underperforming players to start playing better.

He's fine... He only played 33 minutes in this game...
