So is Casey a disciplinarian or a player's coach?
Always got the impression from his Raptor days he was a disciplinarian, but now there are a lot of comments how the players have more freedom, not afraid of being yanked, more relaxed than under SVG, etc.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Definitely a players coach, I see why his players love him cause he allows them a lot of freedom on the court.
Probably the way you have to be at the pro level but I just hope guys like Jackson and Drummond don’t abuse it.

Raptor fan here he’s never been a players coach.
And like I’ve said on that Board before it’s only black coaches who get this label..they are never noted as x and o guys it’s always the players coach moniker.
He’s a disciplinarian..his initial relationship with Lowry illustrates this. He expects a lot from his point guards on both ends of the court.

Svg always loses locker rooms after about 2-3 seasons.
The team environment will be more healthy. Stan is known for constant bickering and that brings on negativity..after a while he loses guys.

He's not a result based coach, let's put it that way. He wants his players putting in the effort and pushing themselves to the level he thinks they're capable of playing up to.

If they abuse it Stefanski can "bad cop" them and trade them away. Casey also hopes peer pressure reigns in any abuse/excesses in this freedom. His issue will be the likely abusers are the supposed team leaders. Griffin doesn't look like he'll suffer fools though - however he needs to keep it in the lockerroom and face-to-face.

Every coach has to be a combination of both. As players seem to like him I guess I'd say he's a player's coach, although this can't be a this or that issue.

He doesn't hold his top guys accountable.
He will be a disciplinarian with the mid level guys and role players, and do so under the guise of development. The truth is, he just doesn't hold the proper people accountable.
I've seen countless film sessions where he chewed out Valanciunas for not over-rotating but made no mention of Demar getting blown by

His top guys love him, and as a result, play hard for him.... which is something you want from your head coach, and something I don't think Detroit got out of SVG

It does not matter. He is just not good head coach. Should have remained assistant coach forever.

A lot of it comes down to the fact that Blake and Ish can shoot threes now, I think.
