If you think about it, our shooting numbers look like the team is trying to replicate Roberson on a team level...

i was just talking to someone about this. i didn't realize stack was such a highly placed assistant. it'd be worth a try but tbh i think if you fire donovan you want someone with a lot of experience (nba) to replace him, someone everyone will respect.

Brooks had him more reined in than this. If I remember correctly he was even benched in a fourth quarter for Eric Maynor one time.
yes. he benched kd and russ together once as well against the bulls. russ' status with the team has changed big time since then i think. this is all obviously just my opinion. any coach with the chutzpah to bench russ in a game these days wouldn't be considered by sam imo.
I think he has respect for Brooks. Maybe not in the total deference way, but in a way that when Brooks did finally pull him aside he thought enough of it to listen.
I always got this vibe too.

Russ may be a stubborn, prideful guy but at some point you would think the humiliation from losing would be worse than the humility required to listen to a coach.

I actually think Russ would have a lot more respect for a former player like that than he does Donovan, especially a guy who was actually pretty good like Stack. I think he's always treated Donovan like a joke.

russ and kd both definitely respected him and the biggest (by far) difference between billy and scotty is that factor.

I'd recommend Allen Iverson to become this team's head coach. That seems like a match made in heaven between him and Westbrook.Knrstz wrote:Andre Roberstan wrote:I would suggest Stackhouse for a coaching spot but he and Russ might actually fight each other

If I'm Presti or OKC in general, that's the biggest thing I want in a coach. And why this hiring was so confusing.

i don't think it's so confusing if you consider sam's priorities in summer 2015.

Should have been keeping cupcake happy. Didn't go so well firing the guy he liked

Which was what ... finding a pliant, but still somewhat big name sounding coach going into KD's recruitment year?

Back then he thought everything was save because Westbrook and Durant would always be here. Coaching didn't matter as much because they were that good.Old Man Game wrote:slick_watts wrote:bondom34 wrote:If I'm Presti or OKC in general, that's the biggest thing I want in a coach. it should have been but i don't think this became a realistic concern until summer 2016. if sam was really worried about kd he would have gone harder at the 2015 deadline imo.
sam did not interview anyone which suggests to me he wasn't interested in input from anyone, probably not kd or rw. i think he said as much also. donovan was a big name to bring to okc, a victory to finally get him to the nba. a feather in the cap.

Maybe it was just me but never really felt that way. He was underqualified and they didn't even try to hire anyone else. Just read like a favor as much as anything

I think it was the cool thing to hire the big name college coach and Presti believed that he catch lightning in a bottle just like Boston did with Stevens. I also believe that he thought that KD was coming back and that Donovan would be the one to seal the Horford coming to OKC.
I also think KD decided to head to the Warriors after game 6. Nothing was going to change his mind.

I think Presti’s biggest flaw (and the organizations) was a naivety that both Russ and KD would just always be there. I think that led to them being less aggressive in FA (using MLE and tax MLE).
Further they didn’t really worry about some of the bad habits that were engrained in Russ and KD during this time.
Now I think that naivety has been shattered and you ge the scared money don’t make none version of Presti.

Can teams trade coaches? I think Brooks for Donovan would work for both sides.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
