Re: Lonzo's role this season
so much speculation after the 2 games rondo has been out.
ball gets everyone involved. that is his signature talent. he did it at ucla and it's a rare gift. players play better(ie get involved more) when lonzo is in and it is because of the very fact that he is a low usage pg. the way the team is being run now, walton has them ALL leading the break. all 5 players bring the ball upcourt. lonzo is way better than rondo for this because he GIVES HIS TEAMMATES PERMISSION. that is his greatest gift and not rondo nor any traditional pg does this as well as lonzo, simply because they are all high usage pg's. on the same side of the coin, lonzo is good with playing off the ball, and rondo isn't. rondo is a full on hands-on traditional pg. if the lakers ever need a half court pg then insert rondo. if lebron needs a blow from too much ball handling, insert rondo. there are a few ways to go with this, but i prefer the synergy between zo and lebron to grow NOW.
there's also that rondo is in la for 1 year a, 6 or 7 teams in as many years so i don't know where this was going other than to help season lonzo anyway, that lonzo is the future of the lakers and rondo isn't, and lonzo is getting more confidence with every game, so where rondo has past peaked - lonzo has yet to peak. i prefer THAT lonzo than rondo.

They will both start by the end of the year, no need to fight.

I still think Ball should come off the bench. He and Ingram would be a great bench combo IMHO. Rondo gives the starters some needed consistency and experience at the point.

Re: Lonzo's role this season
Rondo said that he was brought here to run the second unit. Did some here miss that? Per Mike Trudell. Straight from the horse's mouth.
That means Lonzo is our starting PG. End of story.
His game shape has been an issue but not anymore.
What a bench we have!!! Four of them could contend for 6MOY.

Mike Trudell says that Rondo says..... is the end of the story?

I hope to heavens Luke is making the decisions and the best fitting 5 are out there consistently regardless of who it is. As for Ball, he's still young and inconsistent. I have no problem with him getting his minutes with the second unit. It seems that if his isn't starting it's a personal affront to his fans or something. He's not a finished player at all. As for not starting and developing.... didn't hurt Harden.
I see it this way. We're no longer a development team. I think ownership views it this way too. Forcing the young guys to start just because of their draft position ended last year. It's time to create a team with the eyes on the playoffs. Experience and consistency are keys. Our young guys are all over the place with consistency. I have no doubt he will develop into a consistent player but I also think come playoff time Rondo would be leading the team. What has Ball done in comparison to Rondo in the playoffs? Worthy wasn't starting his first 2 runs either. Having a more experienced player starting isn't a bad thing at all.
All of that said, I could see Rondo going to the bench as well. Not sure why it's so important that he starts given the same minutes.

It's not important. But this thread is about who will be our starting PG. What Rondo said sort of ends the talk about what the plan is anyway.
Trudell on Access Lakers, watch before laughing

Lonzo started tonight. Rondo lead the second unit.
"Lonzo's role this season", I believe is the thread title…
So I guess I'm saying it's important to this thread.

Trudell on Access Lakers, watch before laughing: "While everybody else was with LBJ, myself and one more reporter were interviewing Rondo and he dropped some pretty big news regarding what he's been told about the starting PG job once Lonzo is in game shape…" something like that. Rondo had answered that he was brought here to lead the second unit. He didn't seem to be lying to the camera, if you ask me. In fact, I think Trudell was the one that said, "straight from the horse's mouth".
Lonzo started tonight. Rondo lead the second unit.

The laugh was for the thought that because Rondo says something Luke will do it. What if he says he wants to start and play 40 minutes. My guess is that you wouldn't be this supportive of a reporter passing that along.
Anyway, my thoughts are that we're no longer looking to develop players and starting them for no other reason than their draft position is not productive to creating a playoff team. Ball didn't have a particularly good game last night while Rondo played pretty well. I hope Luke is using their play to make these decisions and not listening to forums and especially to reporters.
As for the "role". He's a PG... so I guess he'll play PG. My guess is that he will start more than he finishes. 0-2 FT last night and that is the reason I believe he should be off the court down the stretch. You can't have a critical ball handler shooting that kind of average and expect teams not to find him. Even if he raises his 46% career average by 50% he's still be in the mid 60% range which is barely acceptable for a PG in this league. I love the defense and love the open court vision/passing but if we were in a playoff series we'd see the difference between he and Rondo at this point in his career.

Denver Nuggets game suggests he should finish games, too. Both can.
