We're talking about a player who was All-Pro as a rookie, hasn't missed a Pro Bowl since he's been in the NFL and is still in his prime. Again, that's a big price to pay, so I don't disagree with your larger point. But if Waynes had any greatness in him -- and he's at least gotten to the point where he's solid -- we'd have already seen it by now.

I definitely see your point. Peterson is another level and he showed it right away. I think the allure is that it might make the defense stout and unbeatable again. To that aim I would agree he and the deal might be worth it. But the Vikings will still have a major weakness on oline trying to finish this season no matter how it ends. After the season they might then be completely cap strapped plus they will be missing a 1st and 3rd in this draft so chances of improving much dwindles. it's certainly an all in move on this season. Which might be worth it given what they paid this QB and what his chances are of staying healthy for three years behind a now classic VIkings Oline. They would have to get creative to improve that line next offseason if they bring Peterson in. It might mean some cuts occur.

Yeah, it's a tough one. At the very least, Waynes at least seems to be serviceable at this point, so it's not like it's a dire, desperate need. At any rate, team building is hard! I have pretty good confidence in our brain trust, so whatever they decide to do, I'm generally good with.

All great points. I guess I do have to remember it took Rhodes about 4 years to really get settled. I remember having a short temper with him, that dude used to get picked on constantly and seemed like he couldnt guard anyone without holding them. So ya Im probably thinking way too short term on this, and wouldnt want to lose a 1st and 3rd round pick on potential OL. I guess Im just caught up in the name and the potential of seeing Rhodes on one side and Peterson on the other. I cant imagine how good Rhodes would look if he was on the #2 wide out all game, those guys wouldnt be able to do anything.

Certainly a dream scenario getting them playing together. We've seen the Vikings throw chips in the center a few times. But it sure would stink come draft time. We finally paid a QB full royalties and I have to imagine we need to start living like the rest of the league does and play over our shortcomings to win. Not sure their is enough finances to keep overloading a position for an advantage like they have done in many seasons. You guys have talked my into at least being alright with doing it or not doing it.

don't know how well corners age, newman probably isn't standard

about going all in: fans would always like this year to be the year but i think it would be good to really look at it. i mean the rams are really, really good (to say nothing of the pats, chiefs, saints, etc) and i'd probably be more comfortable going all in with on offensive line that we're all a little more confident in

I'd probably assume that peak ages for a corner are 26-28 with maybe the ability to maintain an elite level of play to 31-32, so I figure this trade is mainly about success in the immediate future. I'd probably feel better about it if we were turning a weakness into strength, like if we were trading for a Left Tackle. Of course I felt similarly when we signed Cousins over Keenum. Why pay the premium to upgrade a position you're already getting good production at? But that seems to be turning out well.

The secondary gets a nice test today. I'm looking for Kearse to take a step up soon. He seems to be trending upwards this year.

Agree on the Oline. There will always be a few good teams to deal with though.

Secondary players and age. I think it comes down to the individuals and greatness for competition they have.
Top of head for Vikings.
Not to talk up rapers, but Sharper came to Vikings in his 9th season. 9 interceptions that year
Winfield was always a big competitor deep into his career.
Newman obviously led a whole level up to the secondary when he arrived already ancient.

Even a finesse player like Sanders was good in his 10th season.

I think experience can be a big factor for the corner position. After 5 years imagine how many different quarterbacks, passes and routes they've encountered.

Elf blocking for Murray is something special.

Kirk makes a batter throw and that's a TD.

Used to be. He was a Pro Bowler, then he sucked last year and the Cowboys dumped him. I was hoping that was just due to him being hurt, but apparently not.

I don't think I'd ever be comfortable with anything less than a 20-point lead against the Saints. And even then...

Feel like Im watching Norv or Brad offenses again. 2nd and 25 and Vikings run up the middle. 3rd and ultra crazy long still and a bunch of routes in the 5 to 7 yard region. Cousins chooses Rock Thomas as the target for nothing near a first down. Just not a fan of this OC this year.

THe offense passes at will. But we start a drive after Harry's pick with two lateral movement runs to a depth runningback. First right, then left. Defilippo please give us a break and move the chains forward.

Good timing hit from the two defenders. Pinch and that ball popped.

What a kick to the balls. We just didn't make mistakes like that last year.
