Well his stroke was badly neglected, you can tell. They've worked on remaking it and hey if he can become a reasonable competent offensive player he will have a very nice career, especially if he stays on an offensively loaded team like the Celtics. Baynes is a below average offensive player career-wise that is suddenly a decent shooter. Before he played for Stevens he was bad offensively as you could imagine..

The most impressive part about Williams' game last night was not the dunk, nor was it the blocks; it was the beautiful touch pass he made.

LOL. Celtic fans are always wary of athletic guys in general. Combination of guys like Larry Bird who was underrated athletically but was tagged as the White man can't jump icon. And busts like Kedrick Brown. Athletic bigs are also utterly rare. You might see one as athletic as RW3 once every decade if you're lucky

I don't remember Ryan Hollins getting 3 insane blocks in 8 minutes and consistently swatting jumpshooters on the perimeter without leaving his feat before the offensive player.

what separates uncle bob is his ability to defend perimeter guys. he's got amazingly quick feet and good balance for a guy his size. a lot of tall jump-thru-the-roof guys don't have this, and as a result are pretty limited and actually poor defenders except for shotblocking. bob has the tools to be a great 5-position defender from the big spot. that in of itself is rare and unique. any dunks and putbacks are a bonus.

Well he's been working on his jumper a lot with so far. He's at the point where he hits the corner three with consistency in drills. I don't think anyone would have expected based on his A&M career but he actually has a pretty good shooting touch. He's an elite finisher around the rim though. I'm not sure why we want him shooting that many threes when he could be a 60% guy at the hoop.

Williams was just the type of guy that was badly misused in college that fits really well in the NBA. Surround him with shooters and he could be an elite C in the league, no question. I've never been as excited about any other big the C's have drafted...

Yeah not knocking the guy - he could easily have a jumpshot good enough. Just pointing out if he wants to rise up the depth chart - above Theis/Baynes he is going to need to be at least a threat out there. Smart is a guy who gets this - not a good shooter by any stretch but will take open jump shots without hesitation (and some contested ones too - but oh well).

If we look at our team - we see almost every position regular being a ready and willing shooter. Able? Well..that's up for debate..

General idea of C's offense is to work the ball around to someone gets a good look. You can't go through that effort and 'pass' on your look. So Williams is going to need to able to shoot some. As a young modern guy - he likely gets it and will soon showcase his shot. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what Brad wants out of his bigs. Horford, Baynes and Theis - not only can shoot but can shoot from 3.

This is so so different from what fans want - they want a Ben Wallace. My point is that I don't think Brad would want a Ben Wallace or he would make Ben learn the 3 ball.

I think that's kind of what all bigs have to do now to adapt. Shoot or be a serious PnR threat a la Capela. There's also video of Williams practicing a little pick and pop bank shot with Brad that seemed to go in most of the time. I think he's getting there, he's not going to be Kevin Durant but he could probably be a decent shooter..

No. It's not. The point is that elite athleticism does not equate to a successful career. If it did, Darius Miles would have been a star. What is going to make Williams a stud is his basketball IQ coupled with his athleticism.
