Anyways, I don't know all the older players that could've been great, but I wish Griffey Jr. would have been healthy to see him break the HR record so there would be no questioning it.

Ruben Mateo... at least for the Rangers. He was the Rangers #1 prospect according to BA from 98-00.

After Pudge Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, and Sammy Sosa had arrived in the big leagues, Mateo was undoubtedly the most complete player that Texas had developed from Latin America. Nobody had more arm strength, and few were blessed with the combination of power and speed that he boasted offensively.

Tom Goodwin roamed center field for Texas in 1998 and 1999, its last two playoff seasons, but he took free agency and left the Rangers for Colorado after the 1999 season. The club didn't stand in Goodwin's way, ready to usher in the Mateo Era by anointing the 22-year-old as its starting center fielder in 2000. Mateo was coming off a dominant 1999 season in AAA, hitting .336/.385/.597 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI in 63 games before spending the rest of the year in Texas, a 32-game look that was limited by two stints on the disabled list...

Well the greatness that was Rick Ankiel is supposedly back in the majors afters reports are that he's getting called up today.

Josh Hamilton is a pretty easy choice for me. Yeah, he came back and has had a nice season for how much time he missed, but he'll never be what he could of been. The kid was so talented, he threw 95 MPH off the mound left handed, and would of been a first round draft pick as a pitcher, too. Instead, he was so athletically gifted, that he went #1 overall as an OF.

I saw him hit a 500 foot HR in the minors once, and you could tell from watching him that he had greatness written all over him. It's a shame he can't stay healthy, but hopefully he ends up having a nice career for the Reds, anyways. He could of been so much more, though.

David Clyde - Texas high school legend, drafted #1 by the Rangers in '73 and placed immediately in the majors. Despite some initial success that probably wasn't the brightest idea.

Todd Van Poppel - Perhaps the highest touted pitching prospect of the '90's.

In comparison to what his numbers could have been...Ken Griffey Jr. We'd be talking at least 700 not 600 if not for all those injuries.
